View Full Version : It's Happening In San Diego!!!

November 18th, 2001, 8:02:35 PM
Off the Charger board...

"22 attempts/10 completions for 80 yards. This
is Flutie's production for the entire game?
That's not good enough for this league(stellar stats for the Canadian league I'm sure).
Say what you want, there was no difference in the Chargers' quarterbacking between this game and the last three seasons. Brees could put those numbers up in one quarter. Put Flutie on the bench. Please."

"Altough Flutie has brought excitement and credibility to the QB position, the last several games have shown why there was a QB controversy in Buffalo.
It's time the Chargers begin to think about giving D. Brees more playing time.

Flutie has not only not helped the team over the last month, but has repeatedly hurt the team."

"Brees for Flutie"

GEE!!!

It's about damn time they smarten up and start playing Brees. SD is NOT a playoff team; they are now 5-5, and will lose again to Oak. They will probably finish 8-8, which is what I had predicted all along. Their season was front-loaded with all the easy games weeks 1-7 (yess, include Buffalo), and Flutie has made a career out of winning the easy games. Once again, he has proven he loses to any and all good teams---SD beating the Rams, for instance? What a complete joke that would be!

I only hope Brees gets a fair shot, without all the freak-cult-like FFs booing him, and wishing injury upon him so their boy can get playing time he hasn't earned...

WYS, you are sick, man! Why do you spend so much time and energy on this. My God!

Is your wife holding out on you? :p

November 19th, 2001, 10:18:08 PM
Nice try though...

Just having fun!!!

Why, you tired of hearing how wrong YOU were!?

:D

You'll be just as wrong about VP being starter material too. I hope your not, but you will be. His arm is VERY OBVIOUSLY too weak. He could pass for half a season, but Ds would have an easy time preparing for him once they got to know his play from film.

You know. It doesn't sound like you're having fun. You just sound angry.

What was I wrong about? The fact that I like Doug Flutie? No, I was right about that.

Did I say that AVP is starter material? I'm not sure I've decided yet.

November 20th, 2001, 11:01:03 AM
Not angry at all! BTW, I figured I'd delete that last post. Wasn't sure if it was appropriate, potential kids and all. Probably not, just being on the safe side.

NOT a problem however, I assure you! lol

Anyway, NO, I'm not angry at all! Actually I'm having quite the enjoyable time w/ it. It probably only comes across as angry to you b/c you and others try and defend the opposite position, yet w/ little hard evidence in your corner. So when all the evidence is laid out against you, I can see how that would translate into a perception of anger on my part.

Actually, quite the converse; I thought several of you were angry. If we were out for wings and a brew, I can tell you this would be a laugh riot! :D

What evidence?

November 20th, 2001, 11:56:40 AM
8 TDs, 9 INTS, 3 FUMBLES, (that's 8 TDs and 12 TOs), average offensive production of 14.4 ppg in the past 7 games, 2-5 during that stretch;

and avg. of 151 yards passing, .75 TD, 1.75 INTs, a compl. %age of 52.6% vs. divisional opponents this year so far, a compl. %age of 40.5% vs. divisional opponents in the past 3 games, HIS singlehandedly giving away the last 3 games;

A team 3rd down conversion rate that could gag a billygoat, a red zone conversion rate that's tied for 21st in the league, a ypa of 19th in the league, a passer rating of 26th in the league, a TD pass %age of 25th in the league, a completion %age of 29th in the league!!!

I know you think these are all fine stats, especially in light of the way he's making the D and STs play due to his amazing presence, so there's no need to put those up as "evidence" from your corner!

But how about some from YOU now!!! I'm sure I won't get any since the entire arguments of your guys are built on hot air!!!

BogusTrumper
November 20th, 2001, 1:18:52 PM
And this is evidence of what? I don't know what you think you are arguing with me.

November 20th, 2001, 2:31:41 PM
Like Flutie then!! No one will fault you for that!

I'll take that as a concession then...

BogusTrumper
November 20th, 2001, 3:56:32 PM
Concession to what? WYS you are not making sense today. You on something? What the hell are you talking about?

November 20th, 2001, 11:44:06 PM
As I've said a dozen times before, that explains much...

WYS you really make no sense. Are you deleting posts here again? Because this conversation is missing something.

You post stats that I assume are Flutie's as evidence of your side which you claim is opposite from mine but you have not even said what your side is.

I say to you that I have no idea what you're talking about so that you can clarify it for me and you take that as a concession of some sort but I don't even know what I am conceding to.

What are you talking about?

November 21st, 2001, 12:54:01 PM
No bro! I told ya, the only posts I delete I'll let ya know, either personally or in that thread if that's the best way to handle it generally.

What I don't understand is this, you've been taking the opposite side as I have for quite some time now. If you don't understand that side, why you been takin' that position?

I don't know what you think we are arguing about!! :wall: and stop calling me bro.

Okay, I don't like to assume, but are we just talking about whether or not Flutie sucks? He sure sucked last week. :(

I still like him though. ;)

Although, following through on your post on another thread . . .

Here are some Flutie excuses for his play against the Raiders that were valid for RJ so I assume they are also valid for Flutie:

1. his OL sucks
2. the Chargers had no running game against the Raiders
3. they have been decimated by injuries and must resort to signing new people and/or being creative with their practice squad people
4. He has to continually look over his shoulder and hope that Brees won't replace him.
5. The fans are against him as evidenced by the Chargers message board from which you have so generously shared posts.

uhhh . . . give me a minute I can think of more

November 22nd, 2001, 3:07:31 AM
1. It's not much worse than what he's had in Buffalo over the last few years
2. The Chargers have the 6th ranked rusher in the NFL at this point
3. So what!? Flutie makes everyone around him play better. It shouldn't matter.
4. Welcome to what Rob had for 3 years
5. Spare me!!! a) Flutie has more fans on his side for absolutely no reason than who he is than ANY other QB in the history of the game. b) What the FFs have been telling us here is that Rob as a professional needs to be able to play w/ fan pressures.

There's no need to continue this! It's crystal clear that those who would defend Flutie now are using ALL the same arguments put forth by myself and others in defending RJ. At that time they were ALL categorically shot down as invalid. Now, when they suit Flutie, they all of a sudden are valid!!!

Nice try, but if they weren't used then, they aren't gonna be used now. If you are defending/defended Flutie then you used them too.

Um . . . WYS -- that was the point. That I could use all the RJ excuses for DF if they weren't so stupid.

Anyway, I was just kidding. I have neither the energy nor the desire to defend Doug Flutie. :p

November 26th, 2001, 1:33:15 PM
Frankly, I don't really think there is a defense any longer! He's the product of favorable circumstances and a cult fan following!

and a bad attitude, a ME FIRST personality, a back-stabbing mentality...hmmm, what else?

Hey, and DEFINITELY hard work and perseverance!!! For sure! I wouldn't deny him that.

But hey, limitations are limitations! :D

hee hee hee hee

November 30th, 2001, 1:18:53 AM
Why didn't you include VP there fanone! He's on a roll and if I'm not mistaken, he's 1-5 prior to this year and on his own little roll himself.

Doug,

I'm a HUGE Bills fan! That's why I want to make sure we don't lose a very good QB due to impatience. You're right, he MAY suck. But what does another look hurt?

The upside of RJ is huge. I know that's a big IF, but nonetheless, it's still a possibility. It's funny, his detractors supported Doug and they couldn't have been more wrong about that. So why can't they be wrong about this?

I would LOVE to see Van Pelt step up. But take a look at his history w/ the team. I don't think he's ever played in a winning game other than the one that I mentioned, let alone one that he's won. Now, w/o any kind of scrutiny and w/o victories, we are supposed to dismiss Rob and say he's our guy? I don't get it. As far as I'm concerned there are still two QBs competing w/ each other.

But I'm a HUGE Bills fan! To say I'm not would be "uncivilized."

i could care less what anyone (including me) calls the midget. SOrry Doug45, but i love watching that "winner" LOSE!

Who did you mean? Which lousy QB? RJ, AVP or DF?

WYS-You are the first person to try and start a QB controversy for San Diego living in the East coast as a Bills fan on a BUFFALO BILLS FORUM. You are getting the BILLS FANS wanting the Chargers to start Brees over Flutie. It makes no sense there is no QB controversy, and if there was why try and start one on a BUFFALO BILLS FORUM

December 1st, 2001, 2:23:44 AM
What are you doing back here 66? Isn't your mama in S.D. calling you?

:D

There's no controversy!

INDEED!

THAT'S why the Chargers are out of the playoffs for all intents and purposes, eh!

Perhaps there should have been one and the Chargers would still be alive...

Hey, it's not my team. But from what I'm readin' on the boards over there, I'd say the fan base is just about split, and another game may swing it the other way. Patience is short for Doug to say the least!
