Seems that Notre-Dame is also interested in Weis. I hope they leave Clements alone and snatch Weis from New Englang ;)

You know Notre Dame and its coach searches -- they'll interview 20 people, narrow it down to 10, actually offer the job to five candidates and have four eventually decline due to some shameful thing in their background, and finally end up with the coach they are sort of enthusiastic about.

I hope that coach isn't Clements.

Did you see Around the Horn and PTI talking about Clements yesterday?

Woody Paige said he'd be great for them, the other three gave a thumbs down. It was hard to hear what the guys on PTI were saying because they always shout so loud, but I'm pretty sure Wilbon said they need a bigger name.

Notre Dame at least needs someone with some head coaching experience. I like Clements, but he's been a position coach most of his career. ND needs someone who's going to bring in recruits based on reputation. That's their biggest problem right now - recruiting. What kid is going to go to Notre Dame because a first-time head coach with limited coordinating experience is there?

Clements is still relatively young and I'm sure he's going to get another shot at some point in the future. He's obviously a very good coach just based on what people like Joe Montana, Jerome Bettis, Ari Parseghan (sp) have said about him. But to take such a high-profile position like that now? I just don't see how he can think the time is right for this kind of move. I'm sure it's attractive, especially since it's his history with ND, but logic has to win out at some point.

Right?

Clements is interviewing Friday. I sure hope this doesn't distract him from proper game planning. I can't see how it couldn't effect his game preperations....

He was actually supposed to be there on Thursday, so I think the interview may have already happened. They made a point in one of the press releases I saw to mention that the interview would not conflict with his schedule and responsibilities as a coach.

Right?

Not at ND. Logic has been in very short supply since right around the time Lou Holtz left.

Getting Tom Clements to take over would be the best thing Notre Dame could do for itself. Even with recruiting.

What star HS qb with NFL dreams wouldn't want to be tutored by Tom Clements?

That's true, but QB isn't the only position on the field. He'd have to put together a killer staff, and considering all the people that have already turned down the HC job I have to imagine that will be tough.

Or maybe I'm trying to convince myself that he's not leaving us.....

Look, I'd like him to stay too.

But there are so many reasons that he's a great fit at Notre Dame, it's hard to see him not going.

For example, he graduated summa *** laude from Notre Dame Law School.

Great football mind and also a great example to the kids.

One of life's all round winners.

The interview (according to Mike Golic this morning) was last night in Buffalo then the search team flew this morning to Boston to talk to Weis (a ND grad).

It was also said any coordinator who would be hired wouldn't start until the NFL is done and the ND people have agreed to that.

Weiss would be a better fit, so they should take him TC is no good.

Off topic, but I lsot alot of respect for Urban. ND was one of his three dream jobs that Urban Meyer stipulated in his Utah contract. Fair enouph. He could have left the Utes, no questions asked.

There was not however a clause in his contract that he allowed for himself to leave for the Florida job.

He chose not to honor his contract and go the school that he'll have a much easier time to have a winning program. Over his dream job. What a bum

My little rant is over. Thanks

Gee, what a coincidence, Sahlens -- I had exactly the same thought when Urban left Bowling Green for Utah.

I don't know about you Rob, but I wanted Urban to turn ND around (not that willignham wouldn't of if given the time).

Now he can get a serious case of crotch rot down there in the swamp for all I care.

At least with Notre Dame, Meyer would have been saving a national legend. I could live with that. And that kind of recognition wouldn't have hurt our two favorite schools either, Sahlens.

Why Meyer would have been a perfect fit for Notre Dame is he is an offensive genius. He goes to Bowling Green and that team becomes one of the offensive powerhouses in the nation. He goes to Utah, and the same thing happens.

ND, meanwhile, couldn't score a touchdown if you took the opposing team off the field. ND may have not been a bowl contender the first year under Meyer, but the Irish sure as hell would have been entertaining and a threat to score.

Have fun, Urban, down in Florida with scant national attention.

Count Charlie Weis among the coaching candidates at Notre Dame.

The New England Patriots offensive coordinator interviewed with the Irish Friday.

I think Charlie Weis probably has more credentials to be the ND head coach than Vic Carucci has to be GM of the Browns. I hope Weis gets the job. And I hope Bill Belichick hires Kevin Gilbride to be his OC, or maybe Brian Cox.
