I have a friend who's still close to the Syracuse athletic program. He told me today that Coach P. was asked to resign and said "no." The request was made so that he could save face from being fired. That will now happen sometime in the next few weeks (probably the next week or so). Another reason he was asked to resign was in case they actually beat BC this weekend, it wouldn't look as good on the school's behalf to get rid of him right after a big win. But now they basically have no choice.

Also, Jake Crouthamel's (he's the AD) resignation (retiring) was kind of pushed on him now so that he didn't have a hand in who would be the next football coach. They will most likely hire a new AD before a new head football coach, so that the new AD can have a say in it and "officially" sign off on it.

We all knew this was proabably going to happen, but according to this, it is pretty much a done deal now.

Take what you want from it, just throwing it out to all of you so you know. The question is now -- who will be the next head coach? Don't expect a big name and/or a head coach from someone who is already coaching in a big conference. SU simply doesn't have the kind of money, nor would be willing to pay it, to lure him away. So it will most likely be a head coach from a smaller conference (a younger guy), or a coordinator from a big name school.

I'm sending my resume tomorrow. :hehe: They wouldn't have to pay me much!! :D

When they had Harrison and McNabb, and then went nowhere, he should have been fired then.

The Temple loss was the nail.

IMO this is about 3 seasons to late but he's a good man and he's never embarrassed the University so that's what kept him there. That and his link to the past.

He will go on to be a good coordinator for someone but the school needs new blood.

An east coast 1-AA coach would be a great choice for SU.

Goodbye Paul. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

What took so long? "Coach P" was way past his prime and the program has been going nowhere over the past few years.
Let's see if Joe Paterno is the next to go...

or Ty Willingham....

I love Willingham. And would love to see him wearing Orange and Blue.

But, quite honetly, what we need is a more offensive-minded coach to come in and have a system that is much more appealing to recruits than what we've had the past few years.

Remember, even though Donovan McNabb was the quarterback under Pasqualoni and the offense looked great then, Kevin Rogers was the offensive coordinator when Donovan was the QB. Rogers is now the QB coach at Virginia Tech. (By the way, I am not advocating bringing Rogers back to SU to be the head coach).

Willingham's problems at Notre Dame are a direct result of his offensive struggles. As great as his would enhance the reputation of the program and help it's overall standing as a school with good student-athletes, I just don't think he'd be the right fit right now.

He's an offensive minded HC. The struggles his offense faced were largely due to having no QB (until this year... but Quinn is very young and it shows) to run his system, no clear cut #1 RB (all 3 years), a small OL, and slow WR's.

I would like to see Davis too, but I doubt it would happen. I think he knows he can do better (unfortunately that's the state of the program).

SU is likely going to have to find a guy who is flying under the radar. They need to find the next Urban Meyer.... b/c they won't get the current one (or a coach like him).

^just an example, don't go ballistic on me for using Meyer.

I hear ya.

Ty said himself that it takes a QB 2 years to learn his system and be effective in it. That's why Quinn is starting to blossom.

Meyer would be great. Another guy who would be a great choice I think is the Boise State head coach. Much like Meyer, as far as getting kids to buy into a system and having a good offensive philosophy. And I think SU could afford him. It would be a step up from his current job because he'd be going to a traditional school in a BCS conference.

Meyer is a pipe-dream.

(I was saying don't go ballistic to all posters BTW ;) ) -b/c w/out the disclaimer you'll get that one guy who lacks reading comprehension skills telling me I'm a moron for thinking SU will get Coach M to come to upstate NY.... :D

A big problem SU will face is the number of big time jobs that will be open. There will be so many jobs the hot new guys may get gobbled up and maybe priced to high for the Orange.
