View Full Version : Yes - The Yankees Lose

I was so glad to see the Yankees lose yesterday; more notably, the way they lost the ALCS. Having a 3-0 lead, all the Yankees fans were spitting it into people's faces about how they would be going to the World Series and coming home with a 27th Championship. But Yankees fans: Guess What? YOU AIN'T GETTING ONE THIS YEAR! Georgie didn't buy one for you's this year. And quit your whining too; try being a die-hard Cubs fan like myself, not having ever even seen the Cubs in the World Series. Hopefully this is a new tradition starting with the Yankees; a new era in which the Red Sox curse is reversed and changes sides. I can only hope that a streak has been born; a streak in which the Yankees continue to miss the World Series, and HOPEFULLY, miss the playoffs in their entirety.

Oh yeah, another thing. It was finally wonderful to see the umpires make the right calls and not give calls to the Yankees like normally happens. And Yank fans, you cannot argue against this statement; look at all the calls you's have gotten over the years; such as when the kid pulled the homer over the fence in RF against the Orioles. What was his name again: Jeffrey Loria?

The only thing with them that really ticks me off right now is thinking about how George will handle the situation. Coaches and management who have performed well will get the can. And George will shell out his wallet and BUY, I repeat BUY the best players on the market, like Carlos Beltran and possibly Pedro Martinez. This will further show the problem with baseball; there is no balance among teams. But Tim Kurjikan said it best this morning when he stated "The Red Sox are a team. The Yankees are just a collection of great players." I cannot think of a team that has a 1B making over $13 million a season sitting on the bench. Oh, Hello Mr. Jason Giambi; what's your take on steroids?

WHO'S YOUR DADDY NOW YANKEE FANS?

THE RED SOX WIN! THE RED SOX WIN! THE RED SOX WIN!
WE HAVE JUST EXPERIENCED POSSIBLY THE GREATEST COMEBACK THAT HAS EVER BEEN SEEN!

Keep crying A-Rod, YOU SELLOUT! Go back to Texas!

All this from a Cubs fan?

Your team has done it's best the past couple seasons to get that ring and look at how well it's worked out.

You have a right-fielder who is in the same boat as Giambi, a drug induced a waste of money and while the Yanks had Jefrey Mayer to pull a Home Run into the seats the idiots in Chicago screw themselves last season and piss away a shot at the series.

Call me when either your payroll is low or you win a title, until then keep watching the goat crap all over the ivy.

The Cubs payroll is not even close to the Yanks payroll. Most Cubs fans, like myself, realized about 3 years ago that Sosa was way overrated and overpaid; I've been hoping for him to be traded for years now. I like following a team that doesn't BUY players. True fans can stick with a team through thick and thin - that is the definition of a Cubs or Red Sox fan. We appreciate winning; Yankee fans take it for granted.

The focus of this thread is the Yankees fans; so lets focus on Yankees fans - you bandwagon hoppers; you feel like hopping off now?

On the fans:

Why is the assumption that Yankee fans are any less a fan because we root for a successful team? Does the fact that you root for a team that has been mismanaged and a laughingstock to the point of being called the lovable losers make you a better Cubs fan then the Yankee fan who has been following them their whole life.

That logic makes no sense and you know it.

On the team:

The Cubs (and RedSox for arguments sake although they are a well run team) have every available resource the Yankees have. Both teams have full stadiums, a national fan base to buy merchandise, a great TV and radio deal and the revenue streams in their cities to maximize the dollars they can earn. If the Cubbies can’t spend that money the right way or worse yet if the ownership chooses to pocket the profit instead of putting it back into the team with players, coaches and staff then shame on them.

And until I see a Yankee player bat explode and cork fly all over the stadium I’d stay away from the talk about cheating.

I have never accused the Yankees of cheating. What they are doing is legal under the rules the MLB has set. But what they are doing is taking something out of hand, with a payroll that will most likely exceed a quarter of a million dollars next year. Something needs to be done to level the playing field; a bigger collective bargaining agreement or salary cap needs to take place. And please, I'm so sick and tired of hearing people bring up the extreme teams that make it to the playoffs, such as the Minnesota Twins or Florida Marlins. Let me make a few points about those teams that don't help the argument of those who feel that nothing needs to be changed. First, these teams are young and most of their players came from their minor league system and aren't being grossly overpaid; if they were, they'd be donning Yankee pinstripes. And secondly, look at the divisions. In the AL Central, the Twins, Tigers, Royals, and Indians all have smaller payrolls. As long as the White Sox come in 2nd, the AL will always have a low salary team in the playoffs.

And let me further explain my point about fans. I am not saying that die-hard Cubs fans, as myself, are better than die-hard Yankee fans. But what I am saying is that Cubs fans don't abandon the ship when things go wrong. The Yankees have a fan base of two sorts: die-hards which I can tolerate, and the bandwagon hoppers who I want to kill. I cannot count the number of people I have encountered the last few days who immediately changed their favorite team after the Yankees lost to the Red Sox. It is just ridiculous.

And as for Sammy Sosa, did I say I was a fan of his. NO! I said that like most Cubs fans, we have grown sick and tired of his act and have been pushing for his trade the last couple of years. Did we approve of the cork in the bat before it happened? NO! And do we forgive him for what he did or understand it now? NO! It was embarassing and he took plenty of heat from Chicago's and the national media, as well as Cubs fans across the globe.

Yes...the Yankees do suck. I'd root for anybody who was playing them. So I'm very satisfied with them blowing it like they did.

I love the Yankee jealousy, it sucks to lsoe the way we did but it's cushioned knowing that we still are the greatest franchise in the history of sports so I can deal w/ it.

Whenever anyone says "The Yanks bought a Championship" I tend to tune them out b/c they have no idea what they are talking about, our LATEST dynasty was mostly homegrown and through trades(giving up ALOT of players who went on to be AS caliber) w/ a few FA signings but no major FA signings. Since we have gone back to the spending ways of the 80s we haven't won anything(unless you call 2 AL pennants something, most teams would kill for that but to us it's nothing).
