He sounds serious. I admire he had the courage to do the right thing and pay them back, not try to play hardball with them.
He has no problem with what the league hands him as far as a punishment goes. He wants to play again.

There isn't anything I admire about Ricky Williams. He owes the Dolphins that money. I'm not going to pat him on the back for doing what he should do in the first place and sounding nice about it.

True, but he could have continued being a jerk about it and continued to find way to avoid paying the money back.
He sounds like he realizes it was wrong. People deserve second chances after they screw up big, why shouldn't he?

No, he just realizes that there's no way out of the mess he's made of his life and he's grasping at anything he can to make him look like something other than the horse's ass that he's correctly perceived to be by his former teammates and fans.

Even if he is, does he not deserve a 2nd chance? New start?

I think the fact that he's sleeping in a tent and he's out of weed has something to do with it...

Would be a good move, then you could trade Willis to Miami straight up along with a 2nd or 3rd rounder...

In an interview that will appear in Esquire early next month, Williams also said he regrets not talking with Miami coach Dave Wannstedt before he abruptly retired before the season.

"I should have been man enough to have a conversation with Dave before all this happened," Williams said. "But I didn't. I got scared, and I just told him I was retiring. It just came out."

he loves football and he has a passion to play again.... BUT ... for only one year? sounds a little fishy to me. he's only what 27, 28? if he were that into it and missed it that much, he would want to play until he can't physically perform anymore.

look at jerry rice, emmitt smith, etc. they aren't as good as they used to, but they give their heart day in day out. this guy says he has a passion and loves to play, yet only wants to play 1 more season? why, so he won't owe the dolphins that $8 mil?

Who really knows what ricky is thinking. It sounds sincere, but it comes out looking negative. I do think he doesn't really want to play for the dolphins and is just saying that to get traded. It could be the one year stint is just part of his plan so he can get dealt and eventually end up playing for his favorite coach, norv turner.

Isn't that how Barry Sanders retired?

Coach: How's it going Barry?

Barry: I'm tired.

Coach: You're retired?!?!!? Holy ****, what are we going to do.

That's the rumour anyway, after that Barry just went with it for some reason.
