Never. It's too bad though. IMO, this is a great baseball town and the people would cherish it. I know I would.

Agreed on both points. Consider: If we HAD gotten a team in '92 or '98,I'd bet pennies to pounds that we'd be in the same mess that most of the expansion teams are in: small payrolls,hoping to build up a good minor-league system,then having to deal off your best players when their salaries can't keep up with the payroll.

When population and money in WNY stop vanishing and there can be a strong corporate support base to build on. Bob Rich did not want to be the only one to have to provide support. If a team came to Buffalo in 1988, how would they be doing? I doubt attendance would be doing all that well. The only way they would have had any attendance at the games would have been when the Yankees came to town.

I hate to say it, but if a team came here in 1988 I think it would be gone by now. There is simply not a large enough corporate or population base here to support a MLB team. I would love it - I would go to lots of games, but AAA is better for Buffalo right now. There are way too many "small market teams" that are much bigger areas than we are - Tampa, Kansas City, Milwalkee. I just don't believe it would work here.

We in Buffalo do have a major league team, the Toronto Blue Jays. It is just nobody goes to see them, they go see the other team, the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. I was in Toronto for Friday night, and all the cars in the parking lot were from NY State. All the games I went to in Toronto, I have yet to find a Canadian that sat next to me. It is kinda sad that nobody in Toronto goes, but that is what happens.

I went to 11 Blue Jays games at the dome this year.
