woo-hoo, well canada has proven again to be the best hockey nation in the world. Undefeated in the world cup this year and they were never behind in a game, wow. Good job by the finns, they played hard.

Nor did they play a game in another country.
But, congrats on your first World Cup Championship. Now you just need to catch up to us in the real Olympics.

Five words:Who gives a rat's ass?
Tomorrow,the season goes into mothballs.
In all seriousness, enjoy the win. It's deserved. Just keep in mind the NHL will more than likely go on life-support tomorrow. THAT,IMO,is the more important story.
And when the NHL comes back,I have no doubt that T.O. fans will come crawling back to the Leafs. Down in Buffalo, though,it may very well be a different story. We may not HAVE a team to root for.

Obviously, this means Eric Brewer is a much better defenseman than Brian McCabe.
How did Ireland do?

The way it's going,Pittsburgh may not survive without a new arena, new CBA or no new CBA. And THAT's dependent on whether Mario Lemieux's group gets the license to run a gambling facility in Pittsburgh. (Yep,folks....as if there weren't ENOUGH ways to lose your $$$,the good folks in Pennsylvania are ready, willing and able to give you even MORE! :D )

yeah brewer is a great player, not necessarily better than Mccabe but definitely better for that style of tourney. Mccabe is a risk taker and canada didn't need one of those.

I would have been more impressed, or more shocked or whatever if Canada hadn't won it all. Looking a the roster theres no way they should have lost a game. Oh well i'd rather be really good at alota sports than just 1 :yankee:

Outside of a couple of sports, in the U.S. most of the money put into any of these sports is by the athletes and their families. My daughter was an Advanced, Elite competitive swimmer for many years, and it cost me a lot of money. Most of the people who are in the Olympics in Swimming, Figure Skating, Gymnastics, Speed Skating, Track and any other sport, including Soccer and Hockey, representing the US had their families pay a huge price financially to get there. The myth that the US wins because the USOC and other Sports Federations spends huge amounts of money on their training is a ridiculous joke. Maybe every four years they might spend some cash, but their support otherwise is minimal. Top of the line coaching costs a lot of money in all of these sports, and I can assure you, nobody forks over the dough but the athletes and their families, and many of them really don't have it to spend. I laugh my ass off every time I hear this... :shakehead

As long as it is Canada that wins, I am happy. I'm sick of the Euros acting like they are a lot smarter and know da Hoekee better than us stupid, ignorant North Americans. That said, I think most people in the US really don't care if they win. Outside of 5 areas in the US (Minnesota, Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo and Massachussets), most people in the US did not know, or care that the World Cup of Hockey was even happening. I'm working in South Carolina, and the only people who even know this was going on are a few transplanted Northerners, and they were moderately interested at best. They are more worried about Hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne than the Canadians winning the World Cup, And, they do know about about the next NAT-CAR race...
This is not to minimize the win, only to put it in perspective as far as its impact in the US. I remember when Canada won the Olympics in SLC. I worked in Markham, Ont the Monday after. I got lots of grief from the people there, but I was actually happy for them. They got to ride down Yonge Street, all that good stuff. I also told them that after Canada won, most people in the US weren't really all that upset. If we lost to the Russians, maybe. But the Canadians?? Hell, that's what they do, that's who they are. So, unfortunately for the NHL and Hockey overall, things like the World Cup and the Olympics might get the attention of people in St. Paul, Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo and Boston, but not many other places. People just can't get excited or stir up hatred for Canada. Sorry, but you guys just ain't the "Evil Empire"...
