There was the Cal kickoff return; Flutie to Phelan; Stewart to Westbrook; and many others I can spout off. But the last 2 minutes of the Georgia Tech/Clemson game last night were INCREDIBLE!!! The unbelievable sequence of events that happened just reminded me why I love this game so much -- and hate it, too, after thinking about those Clemson kids. Here's a quick recap:

Clemson up 24-21 with ball near midfield. GT has no TO's left. (first down ices it):

2nd and 1: Stuffed
3rd and 1: Stuffed
4th and 1: Clemson takes delay of game with 24 secs left. Now, I would have my fastest player take a punt snap and run back for a safety, BUT......Clemson lines up to punt from own 40. The ball is snapped like a bowling ball, rolling on the ground past the punter. Punter falls on it at the 15 with 16 secs left.

1st and 10 GT: They throw a jump-ball fade route to the endzone for a 6'5" WR, who is being covered 1-on-1 by a 5'7" DB with NO SAFETY HELP!!! Kid makes a FABULOUS play on the ball to catch it. Six points!!!! Celebration penalty on GT. Extra point is Good! 11 secs left.

GT has to kick from 20 because of the penalty. Squib kick grabbed by really fast kid at the 20 or so. He gets a few good blocks and races untouched up the sideline until he's brought down at the GT 30. 3 secs left.

Clemson tries one last shot at endzone which falls incomplete.

You must see the highlites of the last 2 minutes of this game on SportsCenter. Another example of why it's NEVER over 'til.......

Why wouldn't they take an intentional safety? The snap like that was not by design, was it?

Nope. The kid just choked and rolled it. The entire punt team was releasing, ready to make a tackle.

I felt really bad for the kid (Brigsby). They had a shot of him on the sideline after the TD. He was sitting on the grass, head dow, no one around. I think he was crying.

I'm guessing Bowden didn't take the safety because it would have been a 30 yard run to the endzone. Anything can happen, like the ballcarrier tripping or being caught. But like I said, I would have put my fastest guy there and took my chances. There are far more negative things that can happen if you attempt the punt.

And they all did.
