View Full Version : The "REAL" reason Mike Williams was denied

The NCAA did not say that the appeal was denied because of his hiring an agent. He had severed all ties with the agent and given back all monies and benefits. They said that, get this, he did not complete and pass the required minimum of 2 classes (six hours) last spring semester to be eligible for this fall. He didn't fail the classes - he stopped going because he was eligible for the draft.

However, the NCAA told Williams that if he re-enrolled this summer and completed the necessary classes, he would have a better chance of getting re-instated. He did. And he passed them. In fact, by all other eligibility standards (grades, class, attendance), he is ACADEMICALLY ELIGIBLE to participate in collegiate sports.

Obviously, the NCAA didn't think he could do it, and when he did, they used the other rule as a loophole to deny him anyway.

So, let's see.....Colorado has like seven players being accused of rape and Willie Williams (Miami) has been arrested ELEVEN times, yet all are still allowed to play football this season under NCAA "rules." But an academically-eligible Mike Williams will be watching his teammates from home. Awful.

Wow. That is bull.

Same with that kid from colorado who was given stuff for his skiing career, and thus decalred ineligible. Hear about that?

Of course. Another glaring episode of hypocrisy from the NCAA. They've allowed guys like Matt Mauch and Chris Weinke (among many others) to get paid for playing summer baseball professionally, and still come back to college and play football; yet they deny Jeremy Bloom from playing football for endorsing ski equipment. And the WORST part is that Bloom was only trying to raise enough funds to continue to train and compete in the olympics.

The NCAA has some serious issues!!!

i actually understand the reasoning on the Bloom decision though i disagree with it. The problem is if you let Bloom do endorsments you cant then not let a football player do them to.

There are numerous other programs, football or not, that have done and are doing extremely shady things. The Willie Williams situation probably bothers me most of all.
Yet this kid just wants to get back on his college football team after he followed all the rules, and even though he did everything they asked him to do he is still kept out.

He's getting screwed on many, many levels. If I were him, I'd hook back up with that agent immediately and start getting some endorsement money.

Hey, you take the money and you take the chances. He knew that if the Clarret decision was overturn he could be left on the outside looking in. He gambled and lost, tough luck kid that's life. In fact he may even be better off now. This way he gets to hit the weight room, gear up for the combine and keep his impressive reputation. He will still be a top 10 pick and most-likely be a top 5 pick. He won't get hurt or perform poorly costing him draft position and therefore money. He already has a national championship (yeah maybe its was shared, but we all know that USC was the best team last year). I'm sure he is disappointed that his college career is over but hey the NFL Draft is just 7 months or so away.
