A recruiting roll

Hackensack, N.J. - Syracuse University is riding a recruiting wave that's so big, Jim Boeheim needs a surfboard.
On Thursday, Eric Devendorf, one of the highest-rated players in next year's senior class, gave Syracuse an oral commitment. Devendorf, a 6-foot-3 guard from Bay City, Mich., is a consensus top-25 player according to most recruiting analysts, and he's ranked as high as ninth.
Along with Tiki Mayben, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Troy, Syracuse now has commitments from two players ranked in the top 25 of the Class of 2005 by HoopScoop recruiting analyst Clark Francis. Only Duke and Louisville can make the same claim.
"It puts them at a great advantage," an assistant coach at a rival Big East school said Friday. "Getting those two guys so early means they can come into the gym and really focus on the other guys they want in the senior class and get a jump on the'06 and'07 guys."
It's a tsunami, a momentum crest that under game conditions would have Dick Vitale shouting "Get a TO, baby!"
