I respect Lance Armstrong but he only races the Tour de France race every year. He is programmed to race harder on the mountain stages to beat out the rest of the people. I think he should do a few more races a year and then we can really see what he is made of.

Wally - he has won the Tour 6 straight times. He survived cancer that spread to his brain and lungs.

I think we know what he is really made of.

Being in the pharmaceutical industry, I would hope that you would. :dink:

This is quite the feat. I'm just happy he beat won over there in France. Apparently they spit on him and acted like idiots. Great job Lance

I never even realized how amazing it was for him to win six strait, I have a new found respect for bikers after looking at the map and seeing how far they rode.

Armstrong races a couple times a year, not just the Tour de France. The problem is trying to compare him to someone like Eddy Merx who raced 150 days a year. No one does that anymore, most competitors participate in no more than 5 or 6 races in a year. The "big boys" like Ulrich and Armstrong only race 2 to 3 times a year with the majority of those races just preparation for the Tour de France. Rumor has it next year he may skip the TDF and race in the Italian Tour or possibly pull a Italy/France double, but the races are so close that he would not be 100% for the Tour de France.

He doesn't have the skills that would allow him to compete in other types of sports like baseball, basketball, football, etc. however athletes in those sports don't have the skills that would allow them to compete in cycling. Therefore I would say he is arguably the best athlete in the world right now.

You have to remember that the Tour is like the SuperBowl for biking. Why not only participate in the biggest game of the year?

Right now Lance Armstrong is America's Greatest Athlete in my opinion. Lets see Shaq or A-Rod get on a bike and pedal up the alps... not gonna happen.

Plus he gets to go home to Sheryl Crow everynight now.

Plus he's to dumb to ride a bike. By the time he'd figure how to use a bicycle the entire Tour de France would be complete.

Very very well said. Lance Armstrong is indeed the best athlete America has to offer right now.

Anyone think he is cheating?

Currently he is the most tested athlete in sports and he has never refused a drug test...so until someone can show some solid proof I have to assume its sour grapes. I don't feel it's a double standard to accuse McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, etc and not Armstrong because they won't take tests when someone asks. How many times have they told reporters that they would only to use the union as an excuse? Armstrong has never said it is unfair to the other members of US Postal to take the tests, he just takes them when asked!

The most tested athletes are tennis players. They get tested before every match.

and Lance is da man.... but I'd say the best pure athlete in America is Michael Vick. He could seriously excel at any sport if he dedicated the time he does wth Football IMO.... and even in football he could play multiple positions... RB, WR, CB, FS, SS, KR, PR, QB....

How the hell would he be "cheating" six years in a row??? The freaking guy just kicked cancers ass, give him alittle credit.

There was a teammate of his that thinks he used steroids (was on ESPN).... that's why jimmi asked what you guys think. Could just be a bitter guy who wasn't as good, but that's probably why jimmi was wondering what you think.

Like Wing Eater said Lance gets tested more then most athletes ever will.

Considering just the last 6 years at 21 stages per year that means he’s been tested over 120 times. As a race or stage leader he’s one of the guys who takes a leak in a cup after every stage.

Lance also gets tested for the Olympic games as well as the smaller races that he competes in during the year such as the Tour of Georgia which he won earlier this year.
