The ARCA Remax series is returning to Lake Erie Speedway on August 7. Last year’s race (1st one at Lake Erie) was a blast. I took Mom and Dad. We had reserve seats about 7 rows up and right next to the start finish line.

ARCA is a national touring series. The drivers drive old cup cars that teams have sold. It would consider it 4th in terms of talent, behind Cup, Busch and Trucks and just ahead of ASA, Busch North and Winston West.

Last year, Frank Kimmel took the lead on lap #1 and held on to for awhile before two spins dropped him to the last car on the lead lap. He fought back the entire race, nearly taking the lead with about ten to go. He could not quite do it and faded until the last lap or two. On the last lap, turn four he pulled even with the leader, Billy Venturini, and passed him totally clean. He went on to win while Venturini spun trying to stay ahead of Kimmel and crossed the start/finish for second. While the race was sloppy with many cautions, it was a blast and worth the cost.

Kimmel dominates the ARCA series and has won 5 championships and 4 in a row (and apparently heading for 5) Other names in the series include Jason Jarrett (son of Dale), AJ Fike, and other part time Busch/Truck drivers.

There are opening races with the local guys that were enjoyable as well.

If you enjoy racing, it is worth a couple of hour dive. The raceway is right down the 90 in Erie, PA.
