I've been wanting to get it for a couple years now, especially since the NFL seems to have a pretty solid contract with them. Anyone have any experiences with them, good or bad? In particular, aside from Direct TV (and the $200 dollar price tag for NFL Sunday ticket i'm gonna have a hell of a time justifying to my wife) are there any other satellite alternatives to pull in Bills games from out of town?

I have DirecTV and like it a lot - especially since they added the NFL Network. NFL football 24 hrs/day, 365/year. What could be better?
My only beef, and I'm sure it's true regardless of which dish you get, is that the reception is less reliable than cable. Snowstorms and sometimes even heavy rain will temporarily knock out reception.
No big deal most of the time, but really frustrating at the end of a close game.

DirecTV with Sunday ticket....well worth it. I have never not had a signal.

A lot of it is where the dish is put on the house.
When mine was installed the guy wanted to put it in one spot the would be easier for him but from looking at the roof I had him put it in a spot kind of tucked in behind the chimney and roof peak. The dish is not protected from the wind and blowing snow or ice and I’ve only lost the picture a couple times in the past 2+ years.

I'm not familliar with how satellite television works at all. Can any of you explain what this is? They sell on ebay all the time and seem to be perfectly legal. Are they hack cards or something?

I have dish network. I just got it recently and have lost it more than I thought I would. Ther have been quite a few nasty storms recently, but I might have them come in and check the alignmnet.

Does that mean you can get a hold of a directTV dish, get a hold of a hack card, and then not have to pay for programming (completely theoretically?)
Mehser, can you get the bills games with dish network?

They don't offer teh NFL ticket. I got the dish in the spring, and I thought I saw ads for the MLB games and I thought it would be offered, but a look at their website does not show that package.
I wouldn't get the NFL ticket anyway since I am local and have season tickets.

What about if the bills are playing like cincy or something. Are you able to pick up cincy's local feed if you wanted to?

I don't think so. I have the Buffalo locals so I get the away games on the Network channels. If the Bills are at home and not sold out, I am out of luck for TV for the game.
The dish does have MLB, college football, soccer , and other pro sports, but I could not find anything on their site about NFL games.
One new feature on the Dish is the addition of the Sirius satellite radio stations. 50 or so all music channels with no commercials. Great variety. Right now I have station 6023, 80's Hair Bands, on.

The future is satellite radio. I'm thinking of getting Sirius or XM, depending where the good talk shows go, i.e. Stern, O&A, and whoever else.
But as for TV, I'm still liking Adelphia, only for the Powerlink/TV package. No football, but I get the hockey and baseball packages. One friend of mine has had poor reception on the local channels on DirecTV, and another just got rid of Dish Network for other reasons. I used to have DN years ago, and their reps were the hardest to deal with ever. Many problems with them.

If you want to see ALL the Bills games then I would recommend getting the Direct TV. I have not had a problem with their service and enjoy every weekly Bills game.

I've had DirectV for 5 years and I have a fraction to complain about compaired to cable. The NFL was the #1 reason I picked it up but you also get much more channels that have a clearer picture and sound then cable for less the price.
Recent channels they've added that are my favorites include the NFL Network which is worth the price of admission alone. The NASA channel, with live feeds from projects in space and other documentary's involving space exploration. TVG has live horse races from track throughout America, you can set up an account and bet on the races without leaving you living room.
There is always the argument that weather or foliage disrupts the feed. This has only happened to me four or five times I've had the dish. I highly recomend it.

Yeah Direct Tv is the way to go provided you're not attempting to 4 TVs. The $5 a month per additional receiver is a little silly since you've already subscribed and had to pay for (one way or another) for the hardware. There are a ton of "hacked" systems out there and schemes to keep programming up but most of it is short term unless you do it yourself. The hacking has been extremely simple to some but even more simple to track down and convict so your best bet is the legal way, unless you look good in stripes.

get directv dvr w/ tivo for 99 bucks and get your first 3 months of tv free. that will make it seem like the sunday ticket is cheaper. the tivo subscription is 5 extra bucks a month, but well worth it.

These days are gone. You'd have to get a hold of a pretty old set to pull this off as the cards changed more than a few months ago.
I don't think Dishnetwork carries the NFL, it's not on their site. I had DirectTV and while it was a pretty good product, I dumped it because they were eliminating programming and upping the price, much the same as cable. Also DirectTV is OWNED BY Rupert Murdoch!!!
I have dishnetwork now that they have NHL.

for direct tv you have by the new card and there are apparently (unknown) there are people working on a hack which some theoretical person could use to access directtv

Thanks man. It was actually an awesome deal, available till the end of October. For buying NFL Sunday Ticket, i got four free months of the Premier package. That comes with Empire, so i'm set up all the way around. I'm a happy fellow.

Every so often call them and ask what deals they have going on. Some are not advertised or are for new people only but you can talk them into them.
