Nothing new, waiting for an offer. I'm getting pretty concerned about Paille though.

Thats good old Darcy for ya. Always waiting till the last minute and making excuses to not sign players. Let's axe Darcy(LITERALLY).

I wouldn't be.

A lot of people got worriued about getting Roy signed 12 months ago and look how that turned out.

I think poeple have a right to worry.

Heisten, Zigomanis.... though their stories are different. There's no reason to wait until the last minute IMO.

The thing is that a lot of teams are still working on signing their 2002 draftees from the CHL.

It's not like what the Sabres are doing is that unusual.

I'll start worrying if we're 12 hours out and they haven't announced the deal being signed yet.

And why mention Heisten at all when it comes to signing draft picks?

His name should only come up when discussing 1st round busts.

Plus, you have to think of it as a trade. They dealt Heisten's rights for a 2nd round pick in 2001 that was used to take Chris Thorburn.

It's not that bad when you look at it that way.

I didn't realize the got a return on him.

In any event, the Zigomanis issue is enough ammunition for me to worry.

When you lose the rights to a 1st round pick you receive a 2nd round pick of the same slot in the 2nd round.

So, if the Sabres do fail to sign Paille, they would get the 20th pick in the 2nd round of the 2004 Draft as compensation.

I wouldn't make that deal. But, Paille could easily fall to that pick and that would make it a wash and perhaps could lower his price tag.

Although I wouldn't roll the dice.

In any event, the Zigomanis issue is enough ammunition for me to worry.

For me, it looks like the Sabres have learned their lesson given that they haven't really come that close to the same thing happening again ever since they lost Zigomanis.

And something like that is something that usually just happens once with a club.

Just look at the Thrashers.

They lost Rob Zepp at the same deadline as when the Sabres lost Zigomanis. And they haven't had any issues since, either.

And I doubt that their fans are fretting about losing guys.

Although, they don't have anything to worry about this year as none of their top picks in '02 were CHLers.
