Basically in short it means that only EA NFL games (Madden) can use players names.

So for instance if you play 989....it'll have generic names or just numbers......so for Bledsoe it will say #11, instead of Bledsoe.

thats ridiculous, everybodys two f'n stupid to realize how much of a better football simulation espn 2k4 is then madden, because they see the advertisments and they get sucked in. It figures that all of the computer geeks would rather change the price of tickets, and worry about resigning players in a video game, then actually attemp to simulate football itself. If this deal happens, which it wont, the NFL video game industry will turn into a pile of horse crap with madden as its king

That's crazy talk. ESPN Football is an arcade game, not nearly as close to actual real football as Madden. You're charging up meters for different spin moves and jukes, for God's sake! What's real about that?

Madden has more options (in terms of playcalling, audibles, etc.), more realistic gameplay, and is just a better experience overall with the offseason modes and owner mode. That's what makes ESPN struggle, the offseason options and the ability to change up your coaching staff. ESPN NFL is great if you want to mash buttons, but outside of the animations (which last year were a little better than Madden) Madden's got far more realistic presentation.

The thing I don't like about this licensing thing though is that it could kill the competition. If EA doesn't have any competition what's going to keep them improving the game?

Instead of madden spending that much money to squash the completion they should use it to improve the game. It hasn't been a good as it could be because the don’t have any competition.

As a buisness it makes more sense for EA to eliminate the competition than make improvements to the game. They are limited with what they can do on the current systems and if your going to spend a billion dollars destroying the competition will give you better results.

If Madden has no competition, the quality of its product will drop.

the quality of the product won't decrease, but it won't improve either. They will just continue to use the same platform for the game and not change it.

espn is the most realistic simulation of football on the market....strategy, authenticity is at it's finest....that's why it is the best football game on the market....having said that madden is more like an arcade game...but fun....that's why I bought nfl street too....have espn for the real deal and nfl street for fun and goofing around....

I wish EA would spend that money trying to make Madden play differently than every friggin other Madden game ever made.

ESPN owned them last year...and probably will this year as well.

qb evade option. That's brilliant. Madden can't top that.

This would suck for me, I hate Madden and am a loyal 2K guy from the start on Dreamcast in 99'.

Well, the first Madden game for Nintendo 64, Had no names, and had The Patsies listed as Foxboro. I remember reading that the release date conflicted with the players union vote, so EA released the game anyways. This was a while ago. If this rumor was true, EA paid a lot of $$ for it. And after next year, the "Madden" contract runs out, so chances are, it will be called EA Sport NFL Football.

I am searching for a link, but I do own the Nintendo 64 Madden game and that is fact.....

I'm glad this rumor isn't true though... cos I buy BOTH EA and Sega Sports every year. I like Madden as always but I like to have an alternative to turn to. ESPN Football ROCKS!!! :niterider
