the new boxing rankings are out and despite the rumors of Mesi's injury he continues to rise through the ranks.

IBF...Mesi is 8th
WBA... Mesi is 5th
WBO...Mesi is 4th
WBC... Joe Mesi is the #1 contender!

And the critics that say Mesi has never fought a ranked fighter should see who is in the top 10 in those rankings...one of these fighters (and sometimes all of them) are in the top 10 in the rankings- Vassily Jirov, Monte Barret, and DaVarryl Williamson.

I'm not an idiot, Mesi will probably never be the champ, but if as he claims is not suffering from a subderal hemotoma, he will get a title shot!

I would love to see him in a title fight but whoever it is against, he might have a chance at really showing people something. But more than that, I think people don't give him much of a shot because he isn't a complete boxer and that is what holds him back.

The only rankings worth paying attention to are Ring magazine's, and maybe USA Today's.

Mesi's ranked 10th in Ring magazine, and isn't listed at all in USA Today.

That sounds about right.

agreed, unfortunately ringmagazine and usa today rankings are not used for maditory title defenses...only the WBC,WBO,WBA, and IBF rankings. As for USA Today, how can they have Barret at 10 when he lost to Mesi?

They feel he's got more potential, especially with the uncertainty surrounding his injury (or lack thereof).

God, the heavyweight division is just awful. :(

Actually they interviewed the guy who does the rankings for USA Today on WGR, he scored the Barret fight a draw. He said the injury to Mesi didn't affect the rankings, but still thinks that Mesi could be a force in the heavyweight ranks if certain things go right for him. He said Mesi would rank somewhere around 13 or so on his list, but USA Today only worries about ranking the top 10.

OK, Klitchko is the WBC champ. Mesi is the number 1 contender. Does this mean Joe gets a shot?

something is really really fishy in the boxing world, but that's ok with me... let's go baby joe!

The WBC can tell Mesi he has to fight Klitchko or lose his # 1 contender ranking, but Mesi said on Simon & Brinson today that he expects he will be given a tune up fight (DaVarryl Williamson, where are you?) and then maybe he would fight someone like Tyson or another ranked boxer on the list before he is told the should fight Klitchko. Fiirst he has to get the okay from Nevada before he can start making any fights. If he is okay, and wins a fight or two, I would expect him in the ring againts Klitchko sometime.

Mesi was supposedly on WGR on Friday and stated he would fight again. At the same time he wouldn't deny the report that he suffered a subderal hemotoma...I didn't hear the interview so I don't know what Schoop meant by that, but that is what they were saying today.
