View Full Version : Wladimir should retire

Wladimir Klitschko was KO'd by Lamon Brewster in the 5th round tonight. I've never seen a guy so technically sound and dangerously powerful possess such a glass jaw. He simply can't take a punch for his life.
If the Klitschko family wants a title, its going to happen thru older brother Vitali. When you watch Wladimir fight, you literally hold your breath everytime he takes a hit because even average hits seem to leave him woozy. His undoing tonight came via a weak jab. Unlike Wladimir, Vitali can take a punch without wobbling.
So the man once considered the future of the heavyweight division should probably--and quite possibly will--hang 'em up. He simply doesn't have the jaw to compete.
By the way, Zab Judah was robbed.

honestly, my only concern is that this bodes well for Baby Joe. I'm 100% biased and I'm 100% ok with that. Do I think that he can beat the older Klitch? well, my heart says yes... When is the older bro fighting next? that should be a good fight to watch since he is fighting for his brother's honor and all... I have to admit I am happy with this result, and I'm rooting for the next Klith to fall also...

Baby Joe Mesi isn't a serious contender.
I wanted to believe in Mesi simply because he's a Buffalo guy, but he struggled mightily against Monte Barret and Vassily Jirov. The former is smallish for a heavyweight and the latter is a cruiserweight. No legitimate contender can struggle against those two and expect to win a belt in the heavyweight division.
The bottom line is that Baby Joe lacks elite skill, speed, and endurance. He broke down late in his last two fights and it nearly cost him the decision. He would get murdered against Vitali Klitschko as well as most "name" fighters in the heavyweight division at this point.

That fight was ugly from the opening bell. Never have I seen a guy so out of breathe in the ring. He looked worse then when Lewis lost his title.

Wladimir's punching power seems to be overrated; he landed shots almost at will on Brewster but couldn't put him down. All Lamon had to do was wait for an opening.
Heavyweight boxing sucks.

He dominated Jirov until the last 2 rounds... He got caught by a punch to the back of the head... He definitly improved his endurence from the Baret fight throwing an average of 86 punches a round after droping 17lbs for the jirov fight... i still believe, but of cousre i am biased.

Wladimir Klitschko’s Sugar Level
Was Four Times The Normal!
By Roman Kernitski
April 11, 2004; Wladimir Klitschko’s blood test has come back with a sugar level four times the normal level for a person. To put this into perspective, a diabetic has sugar level 1.6 times the normal. Doctors in Las Vegas carried out multiple tests, which have returned with questionable results. Further tests are being done, results of which should be known in the coming days. Full exclusive interviews with both Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko to follow tomorrow morning, but until then, Remember where you heard it first. (Posted 4:00 p.m PDT)

What the hell does that mean?
Is he on something?

Some type of blood doping?
BTW, did some of the bigger boxing fans see the USA Today ranking Friday? In the heavyweights under "others" Monte Barrett was listed, but no Baby Joe. No big deal, but I could not figure out how Barrett got a mention before Mesi (Not that Mesi should either).

Classic case of "what have you done for me lately".
Monte Barret easily defeated Dominick Guinn a few weeks ago. Guinn was tentatively listed as the #4 heavyweight contender at the time and was largely considered the future of the heavyweight division along with Audley and Vitali.
Joe Mesi barely pulled out a win against Vassily Jirov, a cruiserweight. And Jirov recently lost to old-timer James Toney. Mesi is not making an impression on the heavyweight division.

Rumors are circulating that Wlad was... get this... poisoned.
I don't buy it, but that blood sugar thing was pretty bizarre.

Monte Barret is a tricky fighter who gives inexperience fighters fits. He has done this for the last few years, but with the exidous of the top fighters we are left with the inexperienced ones. Because of that Barret could end up being a top 10 heavyweight, so say what you will Baby Joes victory over Barret might be important a year or two from now. The next fight for Joe will be key. I've hear rumors of Holyfield which would be huge for him. Also if Vladi should win against Sanders, Sanders has said he will retire. That means that Baby Joe becomes #1 contender and could get a title shot in August. Ofcourse the Tyson circus is always a possibility. Like Joe or not the fact is after the next fight we should know for sure what he is made of. He has looked great against the C ranked fighters, and the B- fighters have given him trouble...though he had some valid excuses for each one, and as far as A fighters...well there aren't any!!! "Foul Pole" Golota just won a draw with IBF champ Byrd, Ruiz won ugly (as usual) against Oquendo. IMHO the best fighters out there are Sanders and Vladi. I used to like Byrd but his struggles against Golota make me wonder if he is any good at all.
