April 18th, 2004, 2:11:43 AM
I was hoping bubble would get his pick in tonight. Oh well.....I will be home from church in the early afternoon so I'll make my pick then.

Also of note...San Francisco is very frustrated that it missed out on the top tier of WR's and then somehow missed out on the second tier. I have selected OT Shawn Andrews (definitely the 2nd best OT in the draft) and S Matt Ware (on two draft websites as a first round pick) but I really am willing to trade either of them to get a quality receiver. I have picks 46, 179 & 198 remaining. If you need a real good OT or S and you have one of the good WR's make me an offer with picks to even it out. I'm thinking Andrews for R. Woods, M. Clayton, L. Evans, M. Jenkins and a pick or two.

gonzo1105
April 18th, 2004, 2:24:58 AM
Ah Matt....there is still one second tier receiver that comes to mind right of the top of my head and too be honest that 3rd tier of receivers isn't bad as well

matthew94
April 18th, 2004, 2:30:17 AM
Yeah, I think I know who you are referring to....and I agree about the third tier receivers....but I was really hoping Jenkins or Woods would have dropped to 43. I was sure I would get one of them, but then they went 39 and 42. Ouch.

haha

I use the best player on the board approach. I don't think Andrews is too far behind Gallery to be honest. And Smiley, according to some scouts, was the second best OL in the draft behind Gallery.

I also believe OL is the most important part of a team, so I have no problem keeping Andrews and Smiley. San Francisco sucks and they have many holes to fill.

Smiley does rock. Andrews is a big fat guard or right tackle or a big fat flop at LT. And Gallery is miles ahead of Andrews, but hey...San Fran does have a ton of holes to file.

With the 54th pick the Denver Broncos are happy to select:

Keith Smith CB Montana State

Analysis: After grabbing offense with our first two pick we decided to go on the defensive side of the ball. Smith could easily become our nickel back his rookie year and could eventually start for us. We also thought about Nathan Vasher

There was no WAY, even in my most hopeful expectations, that Hill or Henderson were gonna be there for the Colts at #59.

As the man says, you can never have enough Ducks on your team.

Seriously, the Colts don't have a 3rd or 4th, and can't take the chance that they can get a run stopping NT in the 5th or 6th, so they take the best DT left on the board.

Al Davis and the Oakland Raiiiiidddaaazzz are very pleased with our first day draft selections. Robert Gallery is a franchise left tackle and should be a fixture on the line, and enabling us to move versatile Barry Sims to another spot.

A good value trade, giving up a fourth rounder to go from the second round to the first round, netted us starting OLB Karlos Dansby, who can both lock down running backs and rush the passer.

Finally, we were thrilled that Derrick Hamilton, a 6'3'' 200 pounder with 4.5 speed dropped into the third round. We feel he has tremendous upside and should contribute immediately in the return game.

We've filled three glaring holes on the team and garnered some very good athletes with great speed for their respective positions. All in all, we feel like we have the finest first day picks in the draft. :D

Note: I'm going to be out of it all weekend, so I won't be able to make the 3d round pick for Seattle. Also, there are too many spots ahead of me to make a cogent list. So I'll just defer to whatever Gonzo thinks best, though I would suggest that they could use some depth in the secondary.

71 HOUSTON TEXANS SELECT LB DONTARRIOUS THOMAS

DRAFT REVIEW FOR HOUSTON
15 WILL SMITH
22 DERRICK STRAIT
71 DONTARRIOUS THOMAS

We have improved all three sections of our defense on day 1. As our young offensive weapons (A. Johnson, D. Davis, D. Carr) continue to develop we feel that the playoffs are in sight.

Just an idea I had to make this mock a bit more interesting is, what if we make it into a small contest based on value picks.

Here's what we do.

Every team will list their selected playes and what number they were drafted at, and then add them up.

Then after the draft add up the actualy numbers of where the player was drafted.

then take your mock picks total number subtract the actual draft number.

Then take that number and divide it by the number of your picks. It might sound confusing, but let me do an example.
______________________

I'll do mine .

Roy Williams at #8
Marcus Tubbs at #38
Nat Dorsey at # 69

Mock Number (8+38+69) = 115

Hypothetically Real Draft
Roy Williams #4
Marcus Tubbs at #28
Nat Dorsey at #62

Real Number (4+28+62) = 94

Then take 115-94 = 21
Then take 21/3(number of picks) = 7

So whoever has the highest number supposedly has the best draft according to the experts and scouts that actually pick.

Everyone can calculate their own I guess, just post your caluclations. What do you guys think?

That's WAY too much thinking - clever, I guess, but too much thinking. We cant even get through 3 rds in 2 weeks and your breaking out the algebra.

haha, its not that complicated. its addition, subration and dividing.

But the great thing about this system is that the number of picks doesn't have to be even, cuz its all an average. So You could have 5 picks and I could have and it wouldn't matter. So if people don't draft later rounds or have more picks because of trades, it won't matter.

The real draft cant come soon enough. You have WAY too much time on your hands to come up with that.
