View Full Version : My take on the first round for Bills

Just my $.02 worth...

If we assume that the following players are gone by pick 13:
QB: Manning, Roethlisberger
WR: Fitzgerald, Roy Williams
OT: Gallery
TE: Winslow

then:
The only 4 players that I would consider before trading down for the best offer would be:
CB DeAngelo Hall
DE: Will Smith, K. Udeze
DT: Vince Wilfork
QB: Phillip Rivers

If none are available or the Bills do not favor any of them, then I would suggest trading down in round one for as much as they can get.

My reasoning:

Other than the listed players, there is very little difference between the player that the Bills could get at 13 and, say, 25. I see the WRs Reggie Williams=Michael Clayton=Mike Jenkins=Lee Evans. I don't see TEs Troupe or Watson as 1st round worthy (at least until late round 1).

In the early 20s, the Bills would have a shot at one or more of:
OL Vernon Carey, C Jake Grove, OT Shawn Andrews, DT Randy Starks, OLB DJ Williams, OLB Karlos Dansby, ILB Jonathan Vilma,
CBs Dunta Robinson, CB Chris Gamble, WRs: Clayton, Jenkins, Evans, possibly QB Rivers. QB Losman.

Whaddya think?

deal this pick, I think that initially, they should trade down 5 or 6 selections to 18/19 and see if Philip Rivers is still on the board. If not, I'd continue to dangle the new pick to acquire further ammunition for later on in day 1 or early on in day 2 of the draft. Many teams will stack their board and have particular choices in mind, so if the Bills don't find the player that they covet......By ALL means, MOVE DOWN! That's a huge hypothetical however as this team might just trade up and cloud this entire thread!!!!!

Where's DT Tommie Harris or WR Mike Williams? I also question whether Lee Evans (who I do really like), Clayton, or Jenkins are in Reggie Williams league. NFL.com's Gil Brandt described Williams' Pro Day... "Williams (6-4 1/8, 225) ran the 40 five times (4.48, 4.49, 4.56, 4.58, and 4.64). He also clocked in at 1.60 seconds in the 10-yard dash. He did a 36-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-11 long jump, and recorded a 4.34 in the short shuttle and a 7.01 in the cone drill. This player is a lot like Jerry Rice in that his time is not as impressive as his build-up speed." http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts

Reggie is underrated. Do any of these scouts watch film!?!

I could *live* with Reggie Williams, but is he really significantly better than the others that I listed (Woods, Clayton, Jenkins, Evans)? I don't know if he is enough better to justify taking him vs. trading down for an extra 3rd or possibly even 2nd round pick and still getting one of the other guys.

Regarding Tommie Harris, I am not a big fan. He is undersized for DT and supposedly needs to be ridden hard in order for his motor to run.

Unless Mike Williams runs 4.6 or better, then I wouldn't touch him. He could be stuck as a tweener between TE and WR.

I'm all for trading down, and hoping Rivers slips. If we drop 19-22 and he's still there and get a 2nd, that would be perfect. We do need to grab at least one OL-man with our first three picks, preferably Smiley or Grove.

I would love that too... but I think the chances of that are the same as the Phin's winning after Thanksgiving

Lee Evans is just under 5'11", but he's probably the second fastest of this year's top wr's. He's a lot like Peerless Price. I think with all the other prospects he could end up falling to us in the 2nd round. I know I'll get a lot of "no-way-you're-crazy"s for that, but I really think it's possible.

"'no-way-you're-crazy'", i don't think he'll fall to the second.

Lee Evans wont fall to us in the second round, hes not near as tall as the others but he runs a 4.3 40 on a rebuilt knee and will got up for the ball, and feels he still has alot to prove. like to have him but we'd need to get him late in round 1 cuz he wont be there by our pick in round 2. If Roy is there at 13 take him, if not trade down get a good lineman Defense or offense, also why not keep 13, and try to trade up in round 2
