You're on the clock at 13. The top 3 WR's and QB's are gone. Winslow is gone. Udeze is gone. Minnesota calls and offers their 2nd round pick to move up to 13 so they can draft Will Smith.
Do you take it?
Possible thought: you pick up Shawn Andrews at 19. It fills Ruben's spot with a guy that could have been separated at birth from our Mike Williams. And it pisses off the Dolphins who had their card all filled out at 20. I not completely sold on Andrews because of concerns about his weight but no doubt Henry and McGahee would be popping corks. The extra second would be nice. I dunno.:?:

I dunno I really like Will, but you cant pass up a 2nd and only moving 6 spots down. So yeah i would take it.

This is a tuff one. But i would say stay because i think Will Smith will be good. But if i were the GM i would definatly take the full 15 to mull it over.

I would too. Not clear the Vikes would make that offer, but going from 19 to 13 would require their 2nd or it's no deal.
But I think after long and hard consideration I'd let the fat load Andrews go to Miami, hope he challenges Refrigerator Perry to a hot dog eating contest, and move down again near the bottom of the first round. There is some amazing talent that could be there at the end of round 1- Grove, Smiley, Carey, Evans, Woods, Troupe- pick your starter.

Take it. Now if Rivers is still on the board at 13, hell be there at 19 too if no trades are made. Then in the 2nd round I take 2 of these 3: Rashaun Woods, Ben Watson, and Antwan Odom (in order of preference). Then in round 3, if no player has fallen considerably I trade down again adding a 5th-6th and then draft Madieu Williams, FS.
That's possibly 3 starters in one day.

You also can't go wrong though if you stay and take Reggie Williams.

I would love to get Andrews. Talented OL-men are very hard to come by. Watson in the 2nd sounds good too.
MR, you think Williams would start ahead of Reese, Prioleau and Wire in year 1? I am not a Wire fan, so it would not bother me. Prioleau would have to be cut though since his 1.2 is too much for a 3rd or 4th safety.

No, the scenario was the top 3 WR's and QB's (including Rivers) are taken. Still make the deal?

he'd defiantely start over them. And I'd cut Reese and have PP take a cut if possible. Prioleau is a great ST's guy.

I'm in favor of trading down in the first for an additional second... but I would really then want to trade our two 2nd's for a higher 2nd (top 5?). I really don't know if this is feasible and while do believe that there are some good players we can draft w/ two second rounders I think one higher 2nd round guy could make a bigger impact this season. By the way if we trade down I'd hope we'd pick Lee Evans WR/Jake Grove C/Losman QB?

make the trade can get more for your money, addind Troupe, Evans in round 2b and O-line help in 1 and the makings for a good offense next year. Evans can go up high for the jump balls also still has the speed for a deep threat, Troupe will be a nice compliment in 2 TE situation. not sure how good he can block though, Like Vernon Carey to be drafted for run Blocking purposes, But can he Pass block, But those are the ones I would draft

I just looked this hypothetical deal up on the draft value chart (should have done that first, I know) and it says Buffalo would be getting a modest edge in value with this trade- probably have to give next year's 5th to make it even. But there's nothing to say a trade has to exactly even- if they covet a player, let them pay a little extra for the privilege. So if the Vikes made that offer you'd have to lean towards taking it- unless TD sees Reggie Williams as the next TO (minus the attitude) OR Will Smith as the next Bruce Smith.

Reggie's underrated. People look at 40 times a little too much. Reggie can leap like crazy and has better hands than Roy.

Why not? We still have a weakness with Teague and the Sullivan/Pucillo/? combo in the middle. Jennings is an UFA after this season and has been injured in each of his three seasons in the NFL. He is a very good LT when not injured, but the combination of the injuries and pending FA status makes the OL a need for this team, IMO.

Offensive Line is not our Top Priority. Shawn Andrews would not be a wise choice. Sure he's big, but he's also lazy and besides, we've already got some young guys who play Tackle. If we do draft an offensive lineman, we should wait until at least the second round! What we need is a guard or center, and guys like Snee will be available later on. With our first round pick, we must use it on a WR, DE, TE, or QB.

I understand your point, although I think if we did draft Andrews he would be moved inside to guard and he could be dominant there, especially as a run blocker, right away. IMO OL was the weakest part of the team last year. Having said that, I agree that there is a decent possibility that Justin Smiley or Chris Snee might be available at 43. The concern I have is, if a QB is not selected in rd 1, will TD choose a JP Losman is rd 2? If that happens I sincerely doubt there's a guard available in rd 3 that will be a solid starter in the first year, so you haven't solved the OL problem for this season, which I think would be a mistake. In short, if you're saying you favor us taking a guard no later than 43, I'm with you, pass on Andrews.

As nice as it would be to have a Smiley or Carey or some such in the second round, you can almost always find good guard prospects in the 3rd round and below. The first round pick isn't an offensive lineman this year, IMO.
The weak links on the team last year were:
Wide receiver, especially given Moulds' injury.
Quarterback, due to Bledsoe's poor play.
C/RG, due to Teague and Pucillo's suckiness. LT, RT, and LG were all either average, or well above average for the season.
LDE, no performers there thus far.
If you can find a guy on a trade down that can fill one of these holes, you pull the trigger. The offensive line help can come in the second round or later. Wide receiver is deep in this draft, and unless you can get Mike Williams at 13 you can settle for Devery Henderson/Lee Evans/Rashaun Woods/Michael Clayton in the second round. I like the idea of a pass rushing specialist mid-draft.
So to me, unless Mike Williams or another badass falls into our laps or if we trade down, the pick is a quarterback. A replacement for Drew Bledsoe when he eventually either falters or is not retained is a must.

Trade down. Can a 6-10 team REALLY afford to lose any picks. We are NOT one player away from a SB team, time to leave the 'Homer" sentiments out the door.
Unless we REALLY trade up for Manning or Gallery, those are the only 2 people I would trade up for. Anything else TRADE DOWN.
