if brees gets released by the chargers...i think we do all it takes to get him. with a qb we get in the draft....we let go bledsoe at end of the season....thought i'd never say that, but i'd rather have brees over bledsoe

Drew Brees over Drew Bledsoe? What are you smoking? Drew Brees has yet to prove he can do anything with his current team. This past year he had a couple above average weapons to work with in David Boston and LaDainian Tomlinson. I would like to see Drew Brees as a possible back up to Drew Bledsoe but there is no way he will ever start over Drew Bledsoe or be half the Quarterback Drew Bledsoe is. Case closed.

Gr8slayer, simple assumes Buffalo drafts a QB. That drafted QB may be the one he projects to take over as starter, not Drew Brees. I think that would depend in what round Buffalo is able to draft a QB. If the top three are gone by #13, as they may be, it may also be that #4, Losman will be gone by the time Buffalo drafts in round 2. In that scenario, Buffalo won't get a QB until the middle rounds, 3-5. That reduces the odds Buffalo can depend on the draft for a starting QB even for the 2005 season. If Buffalo were to sign Drew Brees, he wouldn't be a bad backup, better than Kordell Stewart IMO. Whether Bledsoe stays after the upcoming season will depend on how he does through October.

no qb can do good with no line help the Chargers need help everywhere on offense except RB. What QB can complete passes or have time to find the open reciver, Brees might not be a bad idea younger than Kordell why couldn't he learn from Bledsoe for a year or 2 then take over for him. kinda like the Idea myself

The Bills would be wise not to make a move regarding a QB until after the draft. If they aren't able to get who they want in the draft, they can persue someone else through a trade or free agency. If they spend a first rounder on QB, I don't see the need to bring ina guy like Brees or Couch.

You all are underestimate Drew Bledsoe. Im getting tired of repeating myself but I will. If we stop wasting money on our already stacked defense and pick up an above average Slot Reciever and a couple good Offensive Linemen Bledsoe will last till late November or even December. We took away Drew Bledsoes number one reciever in Peerless Price. You take away Marvin Harrison, Peyton Manning doesnt have an MVP season. You take away Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper is just another mobile Quarterback that cant throw down field accuratly. My point is you destroy the chemistry for a Quarterback, you throw him off greatly. The chemistry that Peerless Price and Drew Bledsoe had was just like the one Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison have.

Statistically Brees has played as well as Bledsoe over the past 3 years. He would be an upgrade. Drew is a nice guy but on the field he is a LOSER and a washed up has-been. Worst starting QB in the NFL.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. Same old song and dance. This gets old. Same crap said about him in NE. Crappy OL, bad WR's. Why don't you nvestigate Drew's career?

The truth is neither Bledsoe, Brees, Stewart, Couch or anyone else that could be available is all that appealing. Hell, Drew Henson who hadn't thrown a competitive pass in almost three seasons got more than half of the league to come down to Houston to watch him throw in shorts and a t-shirt. If that doesn't say something about the state of the QB position around the league I don't know what does.

Brees has a weak arm. Unless he has some other quality like great decision making, why would you want him?
If he has the ability to make great decisions, he hasn't shown it yet.

Interesting, You guys really don't give talent time to develop much...
QB's generally do not come into thier own until they are 27-30 years old and have played in the leage 4-8 years or more. Drew Brees was thrown into the fire and has performed average. There are certainly worse QB's starting in the NFL. Now I am behind Bledsloe 100% in that I feel he is not washed up yet. But I would like to have a solid reliable average QB on the roster just in case. Then I would also think about grooming a kid for 2007.
Peyton Manning was thrown to the fire, and looked terrible his first two years, although he still did better than some starters in the league those years. It still took Manning 3 years before he was "clicking" and that was even with Edgerrin James pre-injury running all over teams those three seasons. I firmly believe it takes qb's two years to digest a playbook with all its nuances. Even "ready to start" qb's have a learning curve at the NFL level.
The Bills would give themselves grooming time by having a Couch or Brees or maybe a Stewart who can at least fill-in if Bledsloe does falter. But any kid we draft is not going to be ready to start until 2006 unless pressed into duty. For something like that to happen Bledsloe would have really stink the place up, even more than in this past season.

But their arms don't get stronger. There are some things that you can see right away in a QB. A lot of people criticized the Chargers for picking Brees as high as they did. The pre draft warnings were right on the money.
He could be a good backup some day in the right offense, but he hasn't shown that he is worth big money:
=============================
Negatives: Played in the type of offense that can make a quarterback look better than he really is. On the short side. Lacks a really, strong arm. Very average deep thrower. Deep throws will die on him. Is not that accurate when he throws deep and underthrows too many.
Summary: A Jim McMahon-type player, but unlike McMahon, he is a coach's dream because he doesn't have the wild and crazy side. has great intangibles and mental toughness, but he is not as big or strong-armed as you would like and that could really cost him in the draft. Off of physical skills, he is not a top pick. But off of his intangibles, he would be a first-round pick. Could be drafted in the top 10 or fall to the second round.
