I like it. They got a good young defensemen plus two draft picks. We should be able to at least as good for zhitnik.

There is no way the Sabres will get that much for Z.

Gonchar is a more desirably commodity given his offensive production. Plus, he's a pending Group II RFA whereas Z is a pending UFA.

Bruce Garrioch said that the Sabres want a 1st rounder for Z and that's likely too rich for most GMs' blood for a rent-a-player.

Just the same, he's a more desirable addition to a playoff bound team than Gonchar IMO. And he's not gonna do any of those teams any good sitting at home on the sabs roster during the playoffs. So a nice little bidding war could start. And just because he's an UFA doesn't mean that a team that gets him wouldn't sign him to a couple years contract. At this point with an impending lockout and an even more impending salary cap, the days of the huge contracts for UFA's is over. If he went to a good team and got offered a decent contract he would be smart to sign for what he could get now.

Mikey, I wouldn't want to get rid of zhitnik but it's unlikely they'll have the money to resign him after the season. So if they don't trade him he's gonna walk without any compensation.

That is a huge pickup for the Bs. They have that QB they need. Now if Raycroft can play in the playoffs they have a chance.

Great pickup, and even better that Toronto didn't get him.

Go out on a limb why don't you?

Trading Z makes sense because his contract with the Sabres ends in 19 games.

Do the same as Carolina did with Glen Wesley. Deal him and then after the season, sign him as an UFA.
