Sabres' Patrick cleared to play


BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Sabres defenseman James Patrick is expected to return to the lineup Wednesday against Ottawa after missing 15 games because of a pinched nerve in his neck.

Patrick, injured against Philadelphia on Jan. 24, practiced Monday. He has eight points in 38 games this season and his return offsets the loss of defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick, who will be out four to six weeks with a right knee injury.

Defenseman Jay McKee also practiced Monday but is one or two weeks from returning from a left knee injury.

Buffalo also recalled forward Milan Bartovic from its AHL team in Rochester on Monday and sent forward Norm Milley to Rochester.

Buffalo is tied with Florida for ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 63 points, nine points behind the eighth-place New York Islanders.
