Best idea ever!
The "disc read error" is the biggest irritation in history. I gave up on PlayStation because of the damn thing. If you contact Sony they'll feed you a line about how overplaying and five hundred other things can do it and they will NOT repair it or replace it without a fee comparable to buying a new unit. The real problem is that Sony uses dirt cheap componets and they start to seriously suck after awhile.

Must be nice
I have used both of my ps2's for an insane amount of playing time, then after awhile, certain games take awhile to work, then then won't work at all, then you know it is the beginning of the end

(The thing is the same thing happened this summer when Madden first came out and i was really about to cry. my new one is only 8 months old and there is no insane amount of playing time on it. im starting to get reallllllllllllllllly pissed.)

There is also the option to boil the disk. I'm not going to tell you how to do it, because I don't want to be responsible for you ruining a disk, but it does work. New DVD's and CD's come with a film on them, the boil method will remove the film and make it readable. Look up 'boil disk method' on a search engine, and it'll tell you how to do it.

Why would they fix it, as people keep going out and buying another one. It's all about the money.

You mean like put the CD in a pot and boil it with your spaghetti?

LOL The Xbox will sometimes get a 'dirty disk' error or a cannot read error on original launch xboxes. The cure for the problem was either removing the thompson dvd drive or on the few problem disks that do this, you boil the disk. I did it twice and it worked both times. Again, I'm not suggesting you try this, but I boiled water in a pot, put a spoon through the hole of the disk and dunked it in the boiling water(like a doughnut) for 2-3 seconds twice. It worked both times.

I had the problem with the disc read error.... i got a new PS2 and hasn't been a problem since.... Also... since i got the new ps2 i haven't watched any DVD's on it... i think that's a big reason for the disc read error... the laser exerts itself over the DVD's and the ps2's discs mess up
