Long time Buffalo Sabres play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret was admitted to a hospital with chest pains but was later released with a clean bill of health. Jeanneret has been following the Sabres organization since the 1971-2 season and is the longest tenured announcer in the NHL. Jim Lorentz, Jeanneret's color man, took over the play-by-play duties in Jeanneret's absence. Injured defenseman James Patrick stepped into Lorentz's position of team cheerleader... color man. The duo's performance mirrored that of the team on the ice.

I hope so too. He is a big reason I like to watch Sabres games, because everyone knows that the team isn't making me want to watch those games.

I was worried about something like this when Lorentz said Rick wasn't around. I was hoping it was laryngitis or something.

Rick Jeanneret will return to work Wednesday night.

Jeanneret, 61, was taken to an Ottawa-area hospital Saturday because of persistent chest discomfort and shortness of breath. He spent the Sabres-Senators game undergoing tests. Cardiac problems were ruled out.

The NHL's longest-tenured broadcaster has been touched by the outpouring of concern of his one-game absence.

"I'm overwhelmed by the response from people who care very much about what I do," Jeanneret said. "I take that to heart."
