As some of you may already know, the fan clubs across the NLL have teamed up to raise funds for cancer research. The fans in Toronto began a fund drive for the Canadian Cancer Society, called Les's Fund, and challenged all the other fan clubs around the league to join in, and raise fund for their local cancer society or research hospital. The Brigade has accepted the challenge, and will be raising money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute here in Buffalo.

One of the fund raiser's that all the fan clubs are doing, is Lisa's Beads for Les' Fund. Lisa's Beads was started by the daughters and neices of Lisa McBride, who lost her battle with cancer last July. The girls hand make bracelets, anklets, necklaces and anything beaded, and sell them with the proceeds going to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. The NLL fan clubs have teamed up with Lisa's Beads, and the girls have been working thier tails off making bracelets in NLL team colors for the fan clubs to sell. They've agreed to let us donate the proceeds to our local organizations, provided the donation is made in the name of Les' Fund.

The Brigade has three different styles of beads available. We have plain bracelets, in both home and away colors, you can even get them with your favorite player's number on them, and as a special order item, we also have lacrosse stick necklaces.

The plain bracelets are $5 each, the number bracelets are $6 and the necklaces, due to the cost of the lax sticks and extra materials are $10 each. The necklaces will only be made to order, due to the cost of the supplies.

We will have bracelets available at the Krew table during this week's game in Rochester. We only have a limited number of the number bracelets, but if we don't have what you're looking for we'll be glad to take an order and have one made up for you.

The beads will be available until the end of the season, but they will NOT be available in the arena for home games. To order your beads, please contact me via this msg board, email or visit the Brigade website.

We will also be holding a Chinese Auction at our end of season banquet on March 28th as a second fundraiser. More details about the banquet will be coming soon!

Cancer has a new enemy, and we don't fight fair!

OK, some of you may be wondering, " who the heck is Les?" The hardcore Bandit fans know Les but some of the "newbies" might not...until now.

Les is Les Bartley, former head coach of the Bandits from 92-96 (truth be told, Les was an assistant the 1st season). Les took our beloved Bandits from expansion to Champion that 1st season after Johnny Mouridian was bumped up to the GM slot midway through the season. After the 96 Championship the province of Ontario was awarded an expansion team that played out of Hamilton the first year. Les was offered the job and accepted, he's from St. Catherines so it made sense. Many of us in Banditland were dissapointed but understood his decision. The Ontario Raiders picked up and moved to Toronto the following season with Les in tow. There he put together a dynasty. Winning 4 of the last 5 championships. So Les has a total of 7 world championships to his credit, what's the fuss you ask? Well, shortly after the 2003 Championsip, Les was diagnosed with colon cancer. Cancer in any way, shape or form can be a nasty foe no matter who you are. Les has stepped aside from his coaching duties this season to fight his fight. Les has also, with his family, given us lacrosse fans his blessing to give cancer the "two handed slash" among other things. ALL funds raised this season will be donated in Les' name to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. As a lifelong Bandit fan I've joined the fight full force against cancer. Les brought Buffalo 3 World Championships and I, among others, will NEVER let Les forget what he means to all of us here in Banditland.

On a personal note, I know there isn't 1 person on this whole board who doesn't know somebody that has had to fight cancer. I have an Aunt in Ireland that has fought 3 different types of cancer and is still sending me Christmas cards every year. Needless to say, I'm in!

Mac be droppin' a 2-hander to the chops of cancer!

I figured it meant Bartley. I didn't know he had cancer.

I'll pray for him...:(
