Just found this out, so I thought I'd mention it.

As you know, Nascar dumped long time death dealing sponsor, Winston cigarettes, and have replaced them with Nextel.

Who runs Nextel?

Executive Bios

Nextel Communications, Inc. has built a strong leadership team that will enable it to become one of the largest wireless telecommunication service providers in the marketplace. Here are the members of our senior management team.

William E. Conway, Jr.
Chairman of the Board

William Conway was named Chairman of the Board for Nextel Communications, Inc. in February of 2001.

Mr. Conway is a founding partner and Managing Director of the Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C.-based, private merchant bank. He has served on the Nextel Board of Directors since early 1997. Prior to founding the Carlyle Group, Mr. Conway served as a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MCI Communications Corporation. He also spent nearly ten years with the First National Bank of Chicago in their corporate finance and commercial lending operations.

Mr. Conway earned a BA with a concentration in Economics from Dartmouth College and a MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

There's also this dude on the Board of Directors...

William E. Kennard
Managing Director, Telecommunications and Media
The Carlyle Group

I notice Conway is also a University of Chicago guy like Wolfowitz, Perle, Chalabi and the neocon godfather, Leo Strauss.

In your last post about NASCAR, I mentioned that NASCAR has been in a downward spiral since Pappa Earnhart died. They desperately need someone to fill that void. I supposed that the 500 was fixed when Little E won. Other posters thought I was being obnoxious.

This closes the deal for me. The Carlyle Group would NEVER rig anything.

No matter who the sponsor is.....Gordon is theyre poster boy......talk about a joke. Im a long time fan of racing and its unbelievable the preferntial treatment Gordo gets from the Nascar Brass.

I don't dislike Jr. pr beleive in the conspiracies at all, but he gets preferential treatment. Talladega, below the yellow line. No penalty. After 2 or 3 times last year he swears in post-race interview. No fine.

The biggest whiner is Rusty. I am so sick of hearing him cry.

Actually both of you are right. Jr. and Gordo get races handed to them. Rusty whines quite a bit but there are others that come to mind also. Harvick and Spencer are also notorious whiners. Come to think about it my favorite driver...Tony Stewart whines a bit too but its because he knows hes good and when you have to contend with idiots on the track you can see why he's known as a hothead.
