anyone know where to pick up good sabres hockey fight tape? i used to have a great sabres tape. it even had the schoenfeld fight where they broke through the zamboni doors and fought on the concrete but of course i lost it.

as a side note, who is everyone's favorite sabre fighter? mine is brad may. no question. that guy was so impressive and hit so hard with both hands when he was with us. a second place would of course be razor with his ability to disrobe while staightening out a guy. i never really got to see any of the guys pre mid eighties but i always remember my dad talking about danny gare and his piston fists.

The Schoenfield fight is on the Sabres Season Ticket DVD. Larry Playfair used to get into scraps, I don't know if Danny Gare ever did or not. I was a little young

I heard Gare was a tough little SOB, who would drop them when needed. My favorite Sabre fighter right now is Peters. He's not the best in the world, but I love his style. Unlike Brash, and Langdon who hug all day, Peters throws bombs, and leaves himself open too. So any fight he is in has the potential for a KO, either for or against.

In case anyone else is interested, here is a site I came across as I was trying to find Sabre fight tapes on the internet. Free and well done...

Under the video section they usually put a couple of the previous nights fights up. Very fun to look at as a diversion while at work.

Nice link. I agree that few Sabres have ever thrown them as hard as May. And he was the king at switching hands. Being a golden glove winner probably had something to do with that.

I too hear stories from my Dad, who was a season ticket holder in the French Connection days. He's told me about the Gare, and Schoney fights, and even the one time Perrault dropped the gloves and then dropped his opponent just as fast!

No but I do still have the May Day game on tape!!! It would be a lot better if John Gurtler wasn't the announcer.

My favorite fighter... that's a tough one. I'd say Ray followed closely by Barnaby.

You guys don't remember the fun brrawlin sabres of the late 80's, early 90's. At one point, we had Kevin Maguire(now a Ref), Jeff Hartman, and a few others that had some classic battles. I remember Probert running Sabes goalie, and Maguire running the Wings goalie right after. Thats when they werent that good, but at least it was exciting.

Yes, John Gurtler was the television play-by-play man. The classic Rick Jeanerette call was on WGR55, and has since been put over the video track for a "highlights" sake.
