Working under my assumption that the Bills will address OL in free agency, let's say as an example, Adam Timmerman at ROG, then how far do you go up or how far down do you go to get the best yield from this 2004 draft?
My scenario is as laid out below....
It would take pick #13 and next years' 1st round pick to trade up
and acquire the 5th to 6th pick in round one. I've also suggested
that Ruben Brown could be included in a "package" to Detroit, as
they may have interest in him.
With the 6th pick, in this draft, you could be looking at Sean
Taylor, Roy Williams, and possibly Tommie Harris. Do you trade
up? Do you do exactly the opposite? If so, then who's the target?
If I'm trading down, I'd move no further than the 16th to 19th
range. Then the question is who is the target going down a few
spots? I'd say Ben Troupe nows becomes more likely on the "radar" along with Philip Rivers or J. P. Losman. I'd take the QB and keep him away from the Dolphins! Philip Rivers is my pick in this scenario. Any ideas??

So now we have an interior of Timmerman, Tucker, and Teague? That is a little frightening to me. Timmerman is old and the Rams didn's exaclty set anyone on fire with pass protection either. Tucker, I thought we wanted a new OG! :D

So I think you know what that means from me... lol
I keep Ruben at a reduced salary, maybe do the deal if you can keep RB.

I'd play the #13 by ear. If there is a sweet player there (Taylor, Big 3 WR's, Winslow) I take him, otherwise I would defiantely trade down and take a lower tier WR, OL, TE, Rivers (if available) or Will Smith.

Don't trade up. Trade down and get an extra 2nd or 3rd.
We need a G and C and these can be found in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

I don't think that you'll see the Bills sign any FA over 30 years unless it is for a bargain price. Last year they went after younger FAs like Spikes and Posey. Sam Adams was an exception, but he wasn't given a big signing bonus or outlandish contract.

Look at the Jaguars. They went hard after Hugh Douglas who was on the wrong side of 30. Now, they have a $6M dollar passrusher who put up 3.5 sacks. That move has damaged their cap situation and didn't pan out.

I agree that OG needs to be addressed, unless they like something about Marques Sullivan that the previous staff didn't. They could move Jennings or Williams in to G and play Sullivan in their place, if they like him. Otherwise, G must be upgraded because Pucillo and Tucker don't cut it.

Address the WR position in FA. Specifically Justin McCarens. He's big fast and young, but been in the league long enough that he gets it. Let Winfield test the market. I think he's going to be dissapointed in the offers he gets and the Bills may be able to resign him for a reasonable price. If WR isn't addressed in FA then try DE. Possibly Kearse, but he may prove to be too much. Sit on the 13th pick and take the best player available. At 13 you should have your pick of some good players. Of course you always leave the option open of trading down to pick up more picks. Address the interior line in the 2nd to 4th round area. I don't think there are any must have guards in FA, and there doesn't appear to be a Steve Hutchinson in this draft worth a first round pick.
