It was said on the bandits radio show that Ryan was placed on the holdout list for the rest of the season.

This is kinda a shock to me but i don't think ryan was happy because he did'nt get out to a hot start. I don't know what happend but i hope everything works out.

I hope every this okay with Ryan. I am guessing that it is something more then just him not playing well in the last game.

Darris mentioned that he though it was the fact that Ryan went from one of the best in the world to just another guy.

Heres what I do know. Rhyno was amped to play for Darris, liked the style and told me that he didn't ever want to be traded as long as Darris was coaching. Darris is notoriously tough on ALL players. I heard that JT even got the "business" from Darris last season. Darris did say that Rhyno had great practices but his game vs Philly was not what he was hoping for.

My hunch is it's something not lax related. Indirectly it might affect lax since he's going on the holdout list, this leads one to speculate he isn't interested in playing elsewhere. Where this all ends up is anyones guess. I wish nothing but the best to Rhyno and I sure hope it's nothing he cant rebound from.

Darris is a tough SOB. This can't be easy for him either. He'll fight on as usual, just in a different way now.

Mac be puzzled still

Its sad that ryans done but its not like its a huge problem. We have even skill thats been strachted to fill his shoes; which we did without him last year and did ok with him so i think we'll be just fine.

I'm puzzled too. It must have nothing to do with lax...

Good Luck Ryano!!

Sorry people, should have posted this earlier ... but I got sidetracked. This is the official story:

RYAN POWELL PLACED ON HOLD OUT LIST

Buffalo, N.Y. (January 15, 2003) — Buffalo Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott announced today that Bandits forward Ryan Powell has been placed on the hold out list. This move was necessary due to Powell’s decision to accept an assistant coaching position for Syracuse University’s varsity men’s lacrosse team and to focus solely on his outdoor lacrosse career. The Bandits will still retain Powell’s rights for the remainder of the 2004 season and can activate or trade him at any time.

“Obviously we are not happy with decision that Ryan has made. He chose to pack it in rather than work and continue to progress as a player in this league,” said Silcott. “I think Ryan has made a poor decision for his lacrosse career and for his future but ultimately his heart was not in it and this was a decision that only he could make. I certainly hope this works out for him as he is a great person but I can’t help but wonder what his lacrosse goals are when he makes a decision such as this. He let this team down, he let his fans down and I think he lost sight of that. Right now we have to focus on the games we have this weekend, I plan on contacting Ryan in the next week or so to have a more detailed discussion with him about his future.”

Powell was drafted by Buffalo with the second overall selection in the 2001 NLL Entry Draft and has appeared in 25 games for the Bandits scoring 30 goals and 32 assists for 62 points. He was sidelined for the entirety of the 2003 season due to a knee injury and appeared in only one game this season recording an assist and two penalty minutes.

The Bandits’ next home game is on Friday, February 6, at 7:30 PM vs. the Rochester Knighthawks. Ticket packages are available by calling the Buffalo Bandits Ticket Office at 1-888-467-2273, or fans can purchase packages at the HSBC Arena Box Office or any Tickets.com locations. Whoa, those are some harsh words from Silcott there. Actually I feel better about the situation knowing he took the assistant coaching job. From Kurt's view he might have let down the team, but if he wants to become a coach someday and the position was offered to him he should take it. Anyway, I wish Ryan the best of luck and see him in Rochester this summer playing for the Rattlers.
