Why not?! Cleveland has decided not to use him as the #1 Reciever anymore since he doesn't run routes right.....Even though Quincy Morgan dropped so many passes this Sunday. I really think we should make a trade in the offseason for him why not.... He could be our #2 Reciever what we have needed all year. Without Peerless Price our Offense has looked FLAT as a TIRE!!!!

November 10th, 2003, 11:06:46 PM
This would be a good pickup. Since he doesn't run his routes right, we could sign Billy Joe Hobart who doesn't read the playbook, neither one would listen to Gilbride. That could work!!!!

I'd take Johnson in a second.

too me he is the same as reed. A really small possesion guy. We do miss peerless alot now

RustySabre

Seriously, the next change has to be Head Coach. Bringing in more players now is not going to build any more confidence in the coaching staff here. (Although if Cleveland were to cut him loose I'd love to see him on the Bills)

I think if we were to go after a WR Id like to go after Steve Smith of the Panthers. Hes got speed up the wazoo and is really coming into his own as a WR this year. He also solves out KR/PR woes.

RustySabre
November 10th, 2003, 11:46:07 PM
Are the Panthers ready to unload Steve Smith? Is he a free agent next year?

Psychosis
November 11th, 2003, 12:47:59 AM
From what i've heard steve smith is a headcase. He's kicked a guy in back of the head while he was down and beat up a teammate in practice. I heard the panthers didn't want to suspend him because he's there best receiver at this point.

SabreNasty2630

Hes an UFA after the end of the this season

RustySabre
November 11th, 2003, 1:20:55 PM
I don't know, I'd still rather go with Johnson if I was looking for a #2 man.

I just saw that story

I think it's worth considering. Doesn't he have decent speed?

They should get him,,,NOW....before his old buddy Donovan McNabb grabs him.

November 11th, 2003, 6:29:19 PM
YEA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For real this is our last attempt at saving our offense. DONT SAY our offense doesnt need him.

A very fast WR to complement Moulds. I see no reason not to sign him for one year.

1999 66 986 8
2000 57 669 0
2001 84 1097 9
2002 67 703 4
2003 41 381 2 so far

He's a Syracuse guy and seems to be more a victum of the numbers game in Cleveland. He's clearly doensn't like Butch Davis. He might be worth a long look to stir this offense up.

November 11th, 2003, 6:31:20 PM
He was cut by the offensively challenged Cleveland Browns and were going to sign him? If he had any speed or seperation I doubt the Browns would have let him go.I see him more as a possession reciever but I have always liked him so I would be pleased if he were claimed. But it makes you wonder when a high draft pick gets canned by a team that needs talented players on offense.

TheCrystalBall
November 11th, 2003, 6:32:02 PM
ummmm we could sign KJ for one year

cahippo
November 11th, 2003, 6:38:47 PM
My question is he faster than Reed. If hes got downfield speed Id sign him. I dont know what other FAs are there next year, but like I said, if he has stretch the field speed they need to work on signing him.

ricogarion
November 11th, 2003, 6:40:33 PM
Well its in the Bills hands now:
http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news_room/news/arts/2375.0.html

If they want him they better go get him.

RockStar36
November 11th, 2003, 6:46:46 PM
He led the Browns all 4 years, but the article said he was not a favorite of Butch Davis. He still has talent, and we need all the help we can get a reciever, if we brought him in, it would help out our offense a lot. He might not be noted for speed, but i've seen him go deep in Cleveland, and if that kind of threat was on the other side of Moulds, it would help.

RixBills
November 11th, 2003, 6:56:24 PM
He is a good receiver who was in a sea of better up-and-coming receiving talent. He was a product of "to much, not needed," and his relationship wasn't the best with his coach. So something had to give. Either his talents were wasted on the bench the rest of the year or he played, but not up to his potential due to his unhappiness with the coach, or they release him to see if he can have a fresh start somewhere else.

YES, SIGN HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bduff54
November 11th, 2003, 7:55:50 PM
he has no speed, trust me no this one. he is alot like josh reed.

FezziwigJD
November 11th, 2003, 8:05:34 PM
This certainly couldn't hurt. We need all the help we can get at WR.

hebert19
November 11th, 2003, 8:09:09 PM
I think they should be all over him...he has some skills in traffic, and has a bit more speed than reed...it would definitely make the 4 reciever packages deadly

hebert19
November 11th, 2003, 8:12:16 PM
I disagree...hes pretty solid and has a bit more speed...it would possibly give us trade bait for next years draft as we let aiken and brown mature, and save us a draft pick next year...lets us get a Dend!

gilchristfan
November 11th, 2003, 8:30:42 PM
He was on the outs with Davis, I don't know the real story. He was benched last week, supposedly because he wouldn't block. Sign him, not a lot to lose.

YardRat
November 11th, 2003, 8:40:32 PM
We could probably get him for the minimum-isn't the balance of his contract from Cleveland for this year guaranteed?

finsrclowns
November 11th, 2003, 8:43:59 PM
The big plus he has over Reed is experience. He's the same type of receiver as Reed. But if he knows how to run a decent hot route he could help us because that's what we need right now. But understand we need to be playing more 2 WR sets from here on in so if he plays Reed sits.

ice man
November 11th, 2003, 9:38:17 PM
Great.... We could use another wide receiver on those 3rd and 2 situations..... LMFAO

November 11th, 2003, 9:38:59 PM
Kevin Johnson has to go through waivers so the teams with the worst records will get the first chance to grab him, there seems to be a good chance he would go to Atlanta but if he slips by them no way will he get past the Jets.

swami jr
November 11th, 2003, 9:46:01 PM
Okay, the deal with KJ is that Butch did not like him because he did not run block. The Browns could not run outside to KJ's side. He has good hands, runs good routs, is an all around good reciever on pass plays-but he does not have as much upside as Josh Reed.

If we sign Kevin Johson, it should be in a situational role, and honestly I'm not sure Buffalo would be a good place for him he would be another Reed/Shaw type, but a liability on running downs. In addition it would hurt the development of Coleman, without that much benefit.

We have more urgent issues than adding another WR at this point in time.

November 11th, 2003, 11:14:30 PM
Johnson, 27, is subject to league waivers.

If he is claimed by another team, he must report, since the trade deadline has passed. But because he is a "vested" veteran, he has the right to declare himself an unrestricted free agent after the 2003 season. If he is unclaimed by Wednesday, which is anticipated, then Johnson becomes free to sign with any team.

Within hours of being released by the Browns, Johnson sat in his living room and fielded several calls from NFL head coaches interested in signing him.

KJ without a doubt, he has played in bad weather, made big cathces and at this point, what could it hurt??? The infusion of an attitude to prove someone wrong, just as McGahee feels. Hmmm sounds like a formula for success in my book

TigerJ
November 12th, 2003, 1:11:19 AM
Coming out of college Johnson was considered a speed receiver with a 40 time of around 4.35 which is faster than Peerless Price and way faster than Josh Reed.

Pyper
November 12th, 2003, 1:37:37 AM
The Jets, Bills and Patriots are all going to be all over this guy.

The Patriots put Patten on IR last week and have been trying out different WR's but haven't found anyone worthwhile yet. Johnson's surprising release is a perfectly timed development. Thank you football gods.

Obviously the Bills and Jets also could use a WR like Johnson.

So which team will he want to play for? He can choose.....

1) A 7-2 FIRST PLACE team only one year removed from a Super Bowl Championship, A team with one of the game's best coaches with an incredibly bright future.

2) A 4-5 team that is in the midst of a very disappointing season that has fans and media people calling for the coaches head. Heck, even the GM is in trouble now. Talk about an unstable franchise.

3) A 3-6 team whose playoff chances are slim to none. A team whose fans can't decide whether they want to send the coach packing now or send him packing later. A GM and front office that is one of the most rediculed in the entire league. A team whose defense is so bad that a 2-6 opponent can drive 80 yards for a touchdown by running it 19 straight times.

Gee.....I wonder what team he'll pick.

Incredibly bright future? Yikes! That Pats have been winning with smoke and mirrors in my book. They are opportunitic and do not make mistakes but talent wise they are not as good as their record.
Props to Belichek for keeping the team together with all the injuries and winning with no running game.

I'm sorry ... we have how many players with 41 catches this year? How many players on this team have caught 80+ balls in a season?

Here's the deal: KJ is better than the 53rd worst player on your team. Fact is, he's better than Shaw, better than or at least as good as Reed. Apparently our brain rust has deemed Aiken and Coleman as NYRFPT.

You need to sit Eric Moulds for at least two games so he doesn't rip that groin to shreds. If you don't think EMo's hurting the team out there you're nuts. (All of sudden a top NFL receiver can't get separation from Edwards and Newman? They're good, not that good.)

Of the three players ... Shaw, KJ and Reed ... which one stands out to you as a #1 reciever?

Take KJ. Sit Moulds til he's healthy. Seems like a no-brainer to me. But like everyone's said, it won't come down to that. He's gone long before we get to the dinner table.

hebert19
November 12th, 2003, 9:16:34 AM
I think that we need to sign KJ off waivers. He is better than Josh Reed, and gives us trade bait for next years draft. Also...if we can let Brown and Aiken mature a little, then potentially we wont have to waste yet another draft pick on a reciever...and finally get a pass rusher!!!!!!!

Isnt the waiver system determined by last year's record? If so, then that would mean that alot of teams desperate for WR help that had good records last year would be behind us in the waiver line.....It would also mean that NE couldnt get him before us because they made the playoffs....

The ESPN article mentioned that he would only cost us 391k for the rest of the year.......I say he is worth getting for that price....even if we took on the rest of his contract we would onlu be paying him and 1.5 million a year for a guy who makes about 60 catches a year...sopunds good to me.

Smapdi
November 12th, 2003, 10:32:50 AM
I would love to see KJ come here. How exactly does the waiver system work? Do we have to pick up the rest of his contract or just pick up this year's salary?

Detroit is now rumored to be the team most likely to sign him off the waiver wire.

Last time I checked KJ was the browns playmaker. You can't second guess talent like that. Whether it's here or somewhere else, he'll resurrect his career.

KJ is the perfect compliment to E-Mo. He is a deep threat WR with Peerless Price speed and great hands. I think he'd be a great addition.

Thanks for the update McClane. It's too bad he got stuck with a non contender. At least this gives byron leftwich another weapon and certainly upgrades their passing game. Jimmy Smith should be putting up bigger numbers now with less double coverage.

It wasn't our choice. Waivers means teams with the worst record has the first shot. We'd have only likely signed him if he'd past complete waivers.

OTOH, I believe the Jags only picked up the remainder of this year's contract. This means it is likely he'll be a free agent at the end of the year.

RedWhite&Drew
November 13th, 2003, 9:19:33 AM
He's a Jaguar now. We missed him. They released J.J. Stokes. We don't need him. But next year T.O. is a free agent and if you watch the Eric Moulds show you know what hes willing to do to get him here. And (this is a personal fantasy) But Payton Manning is a free agent next year and the Colts arent even trying to sign him to an extension!!!
