I just bought the game today. It is pretty cool, the navigation on the franchise menu can be confusing, but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy. One thing I'm not to crazy about is the point system for signing players, although I do understand that there isn't a salary cap in the NHL, so I guess it doesn't really matter that much. Also, the free agents are super greedy, the minute you offer just a bit lower than what they demand, they turn it down and you can't make another offer for another week.
A few more things that take some getting used to, Line Changes and the ability to score goals. The whole line changing systems...well..sucks. But, I am starting to get used to it a bit, so maybe I just don't like it because it's new. Also, goals are so hard to come by. I played my first game on rookie, and put up 6 goals so I decided to go on to pro. Maybe it's just me and my style, but goals don't come easy.
Other than those few things, the graphics look good and the gameplay is very good. I like the whole ESPN theme to it, it's pretty cool. It's also cool to see a Sabres game on ESPN, considering the only time you'll see that is on the video game. I was amazed by the detail to the player's face. I was looking at close ups of people because I was changing some of their equipment, and I must say that the player's faces are very very good.
I'd like some input from someone who has this game, or NHL 2004, I'm curious to see which one is better. (I was going to test them both out first, but I am to impatient and just bought ESPN)
One more thing, does anybody who has the game know how to take control of the goalie in order to make your own saves?
