View Full Version : How does anyone eat Buffalo wings?

I am not a great chicken lover, but I just can't understand how people eat Buffalo chicken wings. The wing of a chicken does not seem the most appetizing thing in the first place, then all that vinegar and hot sauce and God knows what else and is basted on this chicken part. I get sick from just the smell when I am halfway across the room. Who on this board eats these things and how can you enjoy them?

I love Buffalo Wings, I had to go on a diet because I ate so many a couple of years ago.

Buffalo Wings rock and can be served with anything.

Maybe you have to be raised in Buffalo to appreciate these things.

Actually I'm from the eastern half of New York State. I think you just have to know what places make good wings and which don't.

But you most likely enjoy the Barbeque style of KC, hot and spicy just like wings.

I like KC style when its is a meal, Buffalo Wings are more of an appetizer or snack.

ESPN had that thing where they compare one element of the 2 opponents vs the other and those 2 clowns argue which is going to win (ie clinton portis vs the baltimore D). I waited patiently to get the to Buffalo/KC one, and when they did the clowns compared Buffalo Wings to KC BBQ!!! I was a little PO'd, although amused! What's worse, is they agreed for the 1st time all night and picked KC BBQ!!! What the heck? I'm not from Buffalo either but the wings are to die for!

Someone has to stuff a razor blade down Salisbury's throat before I do. Anything to shut him up, he is clueless and is more dopey then Jerry Lewis on Nyquil binge.

Buffalo Wings rock!!! I am from Buffalo originally, but I've lived in the southeast, the southwest, and I now live in the northeast and I have yet to find a place that wings aren't popular.

Chicken Wings are the best. I love going to the Anchor Bar and getting a pizza and ten suicidal wings. My eyes tear up, my nose is running, but they are great. I have never had wings that were even close to that good. And if you have leftovers, and heat them up at home, they get even hotter. Granted a few hours later, I am stomach is saying "Why did you eat them?".

When I was a lad I worked at a pizza place and the owner instructed us NEVER to make suicidal wings, because people didnt know what they were getting into and would never order from us again. Man, every thread I have replied to in the asylum today is making me reminisce. I feel like doing a Kevin Spacey in American Beauty and just working at a pizza joint again for the free pizza and wings!

It is, but its Gates, not KC Masterpiece. I wouldn't put wings over good KC BBQ, they are about equal in my book. Anyone can make pretty good wings, but good BBQ is an art form.

Abasoultely Yard. I've long given up trying to find them out of WNY. I just make them at home. (At least you can find Frank's out of state). Thanks for reminding me, I need to get more for tonight.
KC BBQ really is a treat, and its not very easy to make. (I started my ribs this morning.) they take 10-12 hours to cook right. Wood has to be right, marinade or dry rub needs to be right, smoke level and temp need to be right, it can be a real pain, but worth it. We have friends coming over tonight so we have to keep the menu balanced.
Gates could be the best all around BBQ sauce ever made. See if you can find it, if not, let me know.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of BBQ myself. Oh, and Denver for a little joke.
Q. How does anyone eat buffalo wings?
A. I like mine extra spicy with blue cheese dressing.

Anyone who dips their wings in bleu cheese is defacing the taste, bleu cheese is for those green stalky things they throw in the side compartment. And if you wanna try good tasting wings, you shoulda stopped by mine and Napalmdeath's site opening day. Woo- hoo

The Perfect Wing: extra crispy; extra saucey; classic Franks and butter with a pinch of cayenne pepper; freshly dipped in very chunky bleu cheese; each bite washed down with a swig of Brador.
I think I just soiled myself.

Obviously, you've never had wings outside of Buffalo. Every time I come home to visit family, I never dip my wings in the blue cheese. They're perfect on thier own most of the time. However, there are many places in this world where people cannot make wings correctly (why I don't know... it's so easy!) and blue cheese helps to enhance the taste.

Point made, other places really do need something to hide their bad taste. I'm glad I live here

The proper wing, made right, is as good as many gourmetdishes, IMO. I miss NY and some of the 10 cent wing nights of days gone by, where I could eat like a Viking for a very cheap price. Now I am starting to tear up from the emmories more than the wings ever made me! :'(

I'm not from Buffalo either, although I did go to school in Niagara Falls and I LOVE Buffalo wings! I like mine medium with bleu cheese and extra hot sauce on the side. Depending on how hot the sauce is I may or may not need the bleu cheese, but I do like it for the celery and carrot sticks! :)
Once you get away from the general Buffalo area, good wings are hard to find. Blondies in NYC has AWESOME wings! I was really impressed! And, the Fish Market in Alexandria, Virginia has damn good wings too!

You can't find good NYC/Long Island pizza anywhere EXCEPT New York! Trust me, I've searched high and low and I can't find pizza I'd eat anywhere except in New York. And by New York, I mean downstate in the City or on Long Island. Pizza in Buffalo is crap too.

I have to disagree with you about Buffalo pizza being crap. While it's true that it certainly isn't NY pizza, it's still awesome.
BTW... you can get some great NY style pizza (and it really is just as good!) in Philadelphia, most notably South Philly. There's a huge Italian influence there and the pizza is excellent indeed!

I've never been to Philly. But, if I ever am there, I'll give it a try.
I grew up on NYC/LI pizza and nothing has ever compared to it.

It is hard to find good wings outside of WNY. There aren't too many things better than an order of hot, crispy wings and a cold homebrew. I don't know if I have a favorite place for wings, but my wife loves Hooter's wings, so every once in a while we have to go there. I hate when that happens ;) .

Hooters is nice for the scenery...but the wings are really nothing to sing about.
