As a moderate video game player I have an idea who has the best football game. But which is the best hockey game on the market.

I only play the EASports ones and also have NHL Faceoff 2003. Theyre both very good imo.

I love hockey, but not for a video game, I have rented a few, and I just don't like them. I have nhl 98 for pc, and its mediocre at best

As far as which series is best rated by magazines like GamePro, EGM, PSM and others, it is the Sega NHL Series over the past 3 seasons now, this years is called ESPN NHL Hockey.

Visual Concepts is the producer, Sega is the company it's made by. The game offers unmatched realism and gameplay. The graphics are also superior to the EA offering this season, and the EA offering this season has been said to be exceedingly arcadey, even for an EA game. Go with ESPN NHL Hockey, don't be fooled by EA's marketing blitz.

Here is a link to GAMEPRO's review of the game for PS2:

I dunno....I read the GamePro review for both ESPN and NHL 2004, they both don't sound real great. They both sound pretty even to me, with different flaws in each game. I was going to buy NHL 2004, but I think I am at least going to rent each game so that I actually play each one before I make my decision.
