If Lindy made him captain, do you think he could grab that locker room? Does he have that in him?

"I don't think Tom (Golisano) and I thought that but I think that Lindy (Ruff) and Darcy (Regier) did. They made a persuasive point to us that the bonding of the team is very important. If anything Tom and I were ready to wait this out from a business perspective but Darcy convinced us that from a team perspective it was very important (to sign him before the season)."

It seems like he's always been a leader when playing for Slovakia (World championships, Olympics) and none of us really know how he is in the locker-room. I think because he is quiet and soft spoken he is always written off as the non-leader type.

I think Satan could be the type of captain that Vancouver has with Naslund and Ottawa has with Alfredsson.

that satan has the confidence to be a captain, his skill is in his playmaking, i dont see him getting pumped up being a savoir, sticking his neck out, say like rhett did, and more so peca did the years bfore. remember peca staying on the ice, demanding action for hulls goal, i dont see satan doin this, rather yeah ok its done..blah blah...maybe im wrong but i doubt it....hes too pasive...

The guy's been wearing the A for a few years now. He's captained a championship team on interneational ice. He's his own agent. I don't see confidence being the problem.

I'll have to get a "C" put on my Miro jersey now. No problem with that. Lets go Sabres!

It might make him more accountable...

I totally agree, jj. To be a captain on a championship team on the international ice is no small feat. And the fact that he's had the A on his jersey for about two years here says he's probably ready for that C. I don't have a problem with it at all. Obviously he's not too passive to have accomplished the international championship as THE team leader.

And the fact that he beat the heck out of some guy a few days ago after getting boarded from behind excites me even more. He's got it in him to stand up for himself and punch a guy in the face if he has to. I love it.

A new and improved Satan.

"There are a few guys, certainly Miro is one of them, which would have to be considered at the forefront with a couple of other guys, and he is certainly capable of doing that. I don't think this is going to come down to leadership of one person. If leadership isn't everywhere, I don't think that it is anywhere. If somebody has to be at the forefront of that, and Miro certainly could be one of those people but I think this needs to be a team effort in every way."

"If you are a leader then you are a leader but there are some challenges for him that North Americans don't have, there are some cultural issues. He needs to be beyond that and he is beyond that. He is capable of getting the job done and he will get the job done."

Sounds like perhaps a rotating Captain.

I don't agree with the notion of Miro as captain, at all. I remember many nights where Miro gives less than 100% (effort wise). When you honestly think about some of the top notch captains around the league and then compare that type of player and leader to the Miro of today, I fail to see any connection. A prototype captain, to me, leaves everything on the ice, bleeds hockey, get's dirty, and can effectively rally and manage teamates. The captain should be a true representation of the hockey club they lead. I just don't picture Miro being captain material.

I'm definitely partial to North American captains. It's difficult to say whether the Sabres even have this type of leader just yet.

Just my two cents.......

Lindy and Darcy think he's captain material?

The same one who almost didn't resign with the Sabres? OK.

Then again, they thought Gratton was a poor man's Lindros. whatever

You really think he almost didn't resign with the Sabres?

he'd be a good alternating C, if that's the way they go

Ruff was the same one who took less money because he had unfinished business. And he was a captain with the Sabres - the prototypical captain who gets his nose dirty, etc., etc..

They never thought Gratton was a poor man's Lindros, unless you are talking in terms of potential or Brett.

Nobody seemed to have a problem with with having Stu Barnes as captain. He was quiet, never took on anybody in defense of a teammate and wasn't offensively gifted enough to carry a team on his shoulders. He was a gritty player who tried hard. At least Satan can take over a game and lead his team on the ice. As long as he shows up a little more than he has in the past I have no problem with giving him the "C".

There were tons of people that took issue with Stu as captain because he wasn't a yeller and a screamer.

There were tons of people who took issue with Barnes. There were tons of people who took issue with Peca (not a vocal leader, scheduled wedding during playoffs). There were tons of people who took issue with Lafontaine (never healthy, thus no leadership). There were tons of people who took issue with Mogilny, for obvious reasons. There were tons of people who took issue with Foligno (goal celebrations to make the Sabres trail 5-1 not really a team player). There were tons of people who took issue with Ruff (malcontent who got dealt). This goes back thru Perreault and Schoenfeld too (who gave up the C because he wouldn't follow Imlach's orders).

Fact is, there are 23 people who know better.

Please, not the rotating C crap again . . . Come on, Ruff, you did the same thing with line combos, and that worked out real well . . . just make a decision and stick with it, if its Satan, fine, but please just pick one!
