first off here is a good Madden Board
http://boards.ign.com/board.asp?brd=5973
I picked up my copy of madden on Tuesday and I havent been able to play it as much as i would like but so far I think 2003 is better then 2004. The computer AI is A LOT better, passing is harder and playing the computer in general gets old really quick. Havent played a game online yet in 04, went on the other night and the servers went down 2 mins after I signed on. The playbooks flat out stink. I dont like the Bills playbook, I used Denvers last year so I tried that again and how can they not have any FB runs in any of their standard formations with a FB like Mike Anderson ( I am a big fan of the FB run in short yardage
Some of the fields ( including the Bills ) are way too dark, i had to actually turn the brightness on my TV up. It seems that all the turf fields are darker then years past and too dark in my opinion. I do like the variations on the formations but as a whole 2003 was better and NCAA 2004 is way better
in order to download rosters from the internet you will need a shark port for your PS2 ( assuming thats what you are using )

you need the ps2 online adapter. Be careful though because not all isp accounts are compatible w/ the online adapter for the ps2.

He's right..the game is too dark and the gameplay is exactly like 2003...and almost the same as 2002

The gameplay hasn't changed a lot in madden for like 5 or 6 years to tell you the truth.

Can't you make your own playbooks in 2k4? Or is that just the PC version? Either way, it is WAY better than 2k3, because the graphics and AI have been improved.

i have rented madden and the game just doesnt even come close to matchnig up to NFL 2k3. So when it comes to buying this years game i will stick with sega sports and buy ESPN NFL Football 2k4

NFL Fever 2004 is supposed to be the real deal. From what I understand you can form a League online, scout your weekly opponents play selection, and some other cool stuff. This Madden game kind of makes me mad.All th hype and besides the owner changes and stadium changes the game is the same as last years. And no LIVE play for xbox, bummer.

Fever has the edge in online play...and I think the coolest new feature in read and lead passing.
The problem is the gameplay itself is still behind the others.
Since I play mostly on XBox I bought Madden because I like the same old gameplay (sue me) and I'll pick up Fever to be my online game of choice.

I was hoping the CB play was better... To no avail though, huh?
My copy will be in my hands 12 hours from now

i think 04 is a huge improvement over 03..... it's harder to rack up 500 yards passing and it's harder for you to give up that many. Better DB's, pass rush...
they could still work on the running game a little more (you can run and stop teh run a little too easy)
napalm... the CB's are much better! this time you can actually tell apart a 70 player froma 90 player too (at DB)!

I gotta agree with you there - I like Madden on the pc for the anal tweaks but on the console its 2k3 for me. XBOX style.

Madden is the best!
However, I must agree that the turf fields are too dark.

something is weird for me...i play the jets and destroy them 42-0...then i move on and play the patriots and they ream me a new a-hole 66-7 and had 7 interceptions on me...the pass rush was ridiculous...

Everyone has their own opinion on which is the better game, but for my money, nothing beats Madden. NOTHING! I rented that ESPN one last year and it SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!! The NFL 2k series are ok, but again, NOTHING BEATS MADDEN, for me at least.
To answer your question about the change in gameplay, there's a couple of subtle changes. But you'd have to be a fanatic to notice them. I happen to be one. (my hands are KILLING me today!) The diving is more realistic. There's shoving out of bounds. There's shirt tackles. QB's aren't as accurate on the run as in the past. The juke moves are crisper. And you can push a player off when doing a stiff arm. Sure, not "much" difference, but hey, what do you expect? The Technology isn't there yet. Wait until the PS3 comes out!
BTW, if any of you want to play online, my username is Rixbills04. I'm on there from time to time. (oh, and you can converse using the USB headset online while playing! IT'S SOOOOO TIGHT!)

They're still there. You have a new way of aquiring them. You have to complete certain things, then you get points that go towards your EA Bio. Once you have enough, then you get Madden cards.
