View Full Version : Was Vernon Forrest robbed?

Just finished watching Forrest/Miyorga II...

First of all, let me say that I never--never--would have predicted a decision going in favor of Miyorga. El Matidor is not much of a boxer, he's simply a brawler. I felt that Forrest easily outboxed him in rounds 7-10 & 12. I also scored the first round in favor of Forrest.

That being said, I scored the bout a draw. Six rounds to each fighter. Forrest weathered a number of fluries in rounds 2-6 but came back strong, with a string of rounds where he dominated the the fight. I gave round 11 to El Matidor for being the aggressor & tallying up a lot of punches.

I'm just disappointed in the judges. Forrest wisely outboxed Miyorga in the later rounds & the punchstats clearly show it. He definately did enough to catch up in points.

I mean, one judge (that crappy Dutch one) actually had the audacity to score it like 116-112 in favor of Miyorga, which is totally ridiculous. What the hell fight was he watching?

It should have ended in a draw, as the first judge scored it.

Maybe there even could have been a Forrest/Miyorga III?

Oh well, that's boxing.

Joe, I'm not sure who won it seemed too close to tell - to me that means he wasn't robbed.

What happened to his Jab? It had no snap! It was entertaining.

(I saw it on my pop's US satelite) ;)

No robbery. I would have scored the fight a draw but if I had to call a winner it would be Miyorga. Forrest just didn't box well enough to warrant a win.
I think this is one of those fights where, since the boxing stats themselves are fairly even, you must rely on that good old ambiguous "ring generalship" to determine a winner. In that case, El Matador wins the fight hands down IMO.

I have no problem with Miyorga winning the decision.

My beef is with the judge who scored it like 116-112.

That's ridiculous.

It was ridiculous, but if you watch the cards for a lot of fights you'll see mind-boggling scores. It's a problem with boxing in general.

Forrest was beaten. Mayorga deserved to win.

Ricardo Mayorga is fun to watch.

He's a rare breed. Smoking cigarettes, puffing on cigars, drinking beers, spending all his money, & gambling.

Its hard NOT to like him.

I heard he wants Oscar De La Hoya now. I'll be rooting him on if that ever materializes.

I scored round 12 for Mayorga, Joe.

I thought the scorecards were fair. It was a close fight, but with Mayorga winning rounds 11 and 12, (IMO) I think that is where the winner was determined. It was a better fight than I had anticipated.

Lederman gave round 12 to Mayorga as well.

I gave it to Forrest because I thought he outboxed him for the majority of the round... with Mayorga throwing a lot of punches at the final 45 seconds in order to steal the round or seal a knockout.

Ultimately, I think the knockdown in the 3rd is what cost Forrest the match.

Good fight by Mayorga.

Hey, Mayorga let Forrest give him those 2 open shots, and He was barely fazed. I felt Mayorga was in control most of fight, and deserved to win. He and de La Hoya will be a great fight, 'cuz de La Hoya has the ability and the power.
