Ive been a wrestling fan for a long time. I watch Raw every week I only miss one show a year to go on a family vacation. I watch NWA-TNA every week and rarly missed an ECW show or PPV. I watched WCW and even stay up late at night to watch old wrestling. I loved it as a child and still love it today. So why cant I get into Smackdown? I try to watch it and it just bores me to death. Its not like the talent is bad. You have the Cruiserweight division witch has some of the best workers in the world who put on very entertaining matches. You also have guys that I have been a fan of on Raw before like Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Edge, and Rhyno. I think Matt Hardys Mattitude gimmick is better than anything he did on Raw. You have even had some all time greats like The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon who may be the best heel of all time. you even have Brock Lesner who may have best combination of size, speed, and agility in the buisness today. So with all these positives going for it why does Smackdown suck so bad? At first i thought maybe it was just me. But looking at even these boards almost all threads are related to Raw. The ratings are worse than Raw. So it must not be just me. All I can do is just look at why I dont want to watch Smackdown. The things that turn me off are the constant pushing of guys like A-Train and the Big Slow, while holding back guys like Rhyno, Chris Benoit, and Edge. Also boring storylines like the Mr. America and Zach Gowan angles. I also think that Brock Lesnar makes a horrible good guy. He was a monster as a heel you wanted to see him lose every night but you just knew nobdy could beat him. But as a face he just doesnt do it for me. I maybe wrong but to me Smackdown has a way to go before it can catch up to Raw and they need to start fixing it now before its contract runs out and it gets cancelled.

For one, it went downhill when Vince canned Paul Heyman as a writer since he did not kiss ass. Unbeleivable, especially since some of the Raw writers (i.e Brian Geywritz) still have a job.

Great points, whkfc.

In my next column, I'm going to address SMACKDOWN! in detail, but you've got into some of the big issues already. Lesnar is bland as a leading face, Show is a bore as the leading heel, McMahon is washed up in the ring, Gowan is a no where story, Hogan and Piper are gone, although thats not a bad thing, the show is taped so any fan can go online and get results on Tuesday night, Cole and Tazz are unbelievably poor announcers, Steph is a poor face, most of the talent is bland and poor on the mic or at selling an angle, and the show is on Thursday, not a monday.

It's tough to succeed with so many problems.

Make Smackdown the Cruiserweight(more enjoyable) show, and make RAW the heavyweight show.
