Six pitchers for a no-hitter...pretty wild. The Yanks haven't been no-hit in almost 45 years!

------------------
(AP) It took a record six pitchers to no-hit the New York Yankees, and that wasn't the only bizarre thing about the Houston Astros' big night in the Bronx.

Forced to scramble after ace Roy Oswalt was injured, five relievers finished off the first no-hitter against the Yankees in 45 years.

Completing the Astros' 8-0 victory Wednesday night were: Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner.

"First appearance for most of us in Yankee Stadium," Wagner said. "What better place could there be? This is like the history book."

It was the most pitchers ever to combine on a no-hitter in the majors — four had twice done the trick.

The Yankees had gone 6,980 games — the longest streak in big league history — without being no-hit, since Hoyt Wilhelm's 1-0 victory for Baltimore on Sept. 20, 1958.

By the time the Astros returned to their clubhouse, the Yankees had left bottles of Mumms champagne in front of the lockers of all six pitchers.

"That's how the Yankees are, they're pretty classy," Wagner said.

That was a nice touch.

It's a great accomplishment when you can hold a lineup like the Yankees to no hits in one game. Congrats to the Houston pitching staff!

Alright!
:beers:

BTW, what I dont get is why the Yankee fans were cheering when they got no-hit. Dont you think they'd be angry and dissapointed and not cheering? Yankee fans are odd.

Because a no-hitter is great accomplishment. Nothing wrong with giving respect to your competitor, especially if he blanks you.

It shows true class, by the fans and the team for leaving champagne. Even good deeds get questioned by so-called fans of the game, what a joke yankee haters are

I didn't watch the game only seen highlights, Torre looked bad, BUT that is a great accomplishment, and it was 1000% class of what the yankees did. They knew they were destroyed plus ruined the record, and still left them the champagne.

Here's a thought.. If Clemens would have got his 300th in Boston, would the Red sox do anything similar???????

Probably not.

Yeah, but this want just clapping and saying "nice job", this was "YEAH ALRIGHT WOOO, GOOD JOB, WOOO!!!" The crowd just erupted. I just think it was really odd.

But leaving champagn was a nice gesture, but I dont understand it. Why would you leave champagn for a team that just creamed you. Maybe they wanted them to get drunk and have a hangover for the game the next day.

Its not that I hate the Yankees, if any team with any fans did this I would think it was odd.

It's not that odd. Who cares? I don't even like the Yanks but that was a nice gesture.
