Not to long ago I started a thread "whos the best guitarist of all time" now i'm gonna take it one step further. What is the greatest band of all time?
I think the Beatles would have to be, even though I hate them.
The best Classic Hard Rock band is no doubt Black Sabbath.
What do you think?

It depends on the style of music.
I would agree with the Beatles. I always have liked the Beatles. You would have to put the Rolling Stones in there too, although I Do not like much of their stuff
Black Sabbath is the pioneering Sound of Hard rock. Led Zeppelin also deserves to be up there because they pioneered a lot of sounds.
Metallica is up there for HEavy rock, and although not as heavy I have always liked Faith No More (No, epic is NOT my favorite song from them and I wish they were still a band.) Also I think in Modern Heavy/Hard Rock today it is hands down Tool. They are amazing

Just kidding, I always felt the Stones were better then the Beatles. I always felt Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band was the best live act ever, just from what I've seen on TV, I can only hope to see them in person. U2 was great upto the mid-90's then dropped off with that god awful POP album. It all real hard to say.
A lot of people are saying Metallica, I think you can say that upto the ...And Justice for All album after that forget it, garbage.

The Who, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Aerosmith---not necessarily in that order.

Everything after And Justice' is not garbage.
What about the Black Album? (Metallica's best album, in my view)
S & M was also great, and Garage Inc. was an interesting cover album, I thought.
Load and ReLoad were average, but I'm not gonna call them garbage.
After all, "Fuel" is a classic.

The greatest band of all time, the Grateful Dead! :theband:
Speaking of Metallica, that last video they put out is awful. The song is awful, the video is awful, everything about it is awful.

I could never say what I thought was the best band ever. I love all types of music (I grew up with a mother who loved opera and a father who played the trumpet and loved big bands like Harry James) and I love listening to all different types of new music.
Bands I've dug enough to go see them live include...
The Band, Procol Harum, Johnny Winter, Velvet Underground, Dr. John, Sly and the Family Stone, The Plastic Ono Band, The Doors, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Alice Cooper, BB King, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Rolling Stones (with Mick Taylor - best Stones lineup of all time), Stevie Wonder, Larry Coryell, Bob Marley, Poco, Neil Young, Devo, XTC (three times), The Stranglers, Kraftwerk, James White and the Blacks, Brian Ferry, The Gang of Four, Kid Creole and the Coconuts (great show), Ministry (Al Jourgenson is god).

Would Napalm Death be one of those bands? I saw them about 4 years ago, they do to much of that scream growling for my taste...
Best bands IMO
60's - Beatles
70's - Zeppelin
80's - Metallica (they had little competion)
90's - Tool, Type O Negative

70s Black Sabbath
80s AC/DC
90s Nirvana

I'm actually going to see The Boss and the E Street Band this summer at Giants Stadium. One of the 10 shows he sold out. Bruce rules New Jersey. I'm looking forward to it. They are definitely up there.

I have to agree with you. Bon Jovi is a great band to see live. I've seen them a few times. They're stadium type anthem rock. Always a lot of fun.

60's - Beatles
70's - Zeppelin
80's - Metallica (they had little competion)
90's - Tool, Type O Negative
60's - Yup
70's - Yup
80's - Metallica was the cream of the crop but there was good stuff put out by, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Jane's Addiction (Yes they had cd's out before Ritual), Faith No More, Rush ( Had MANY Great Tunes out), Ministry ( I could Go on)
90's - Yup, but throw in Nirvana & Alice in Chains.
BTW -- Metallica has SUCKED since And Justice for all. If you like ANY CD ( with the exception of Garage Days) by them After that. You are too young. I always hear "Black album is great" Why? Because it has sappy ship like "Nothing Else Matters"? Go buy Master of Puppets or listen to CD #2 of Garage Days and you will see how Metallica used to ROCK. I will say this. I like the New song St. Anger (If its called that, don't really know) and I see it is not too well liked among people. I say it's about time Metallica got out of their "Sell--out" mode and actually rock for once.
I don't care if you don't like my opinion

Just so you know, If you put in CD #2 of Garage iNc. IT was originally released before Justice for all. Jason Newstead's first Cd he was on.
Fuel is a classic? Sanitarium is a classic. Fade to Black is a classic.
What is your favorite song off of the Black album? Nothing Else matters? You must be a Staind fan.
Yipee Skippee. Been awhile eh?

Its preety cool to see these old metal acts that are still on tour. Last night we went to see Skid Row, not the hottest ticket in town but it was a good time.
