Sabres web site states that there will be a press conference on Wed at 3 pm with Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn. All it says is that it has to do with Hockey Department issues. Anyone have an idea what this is about? Perhaps we are looking for a new coach? or GM.

anybody have any clue?????

:hmm:

From sportsnet.ca

Sportsnet has learned the Buffalo Sabres will announce the return of both head coach Lindy Ruff and general manager Darcy Regier at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Ruff has agreed to a three-year extension, while Regier, considered a target by some, still has four years remaining on an existing contract.

Sources say Ruff agreed to re-sign in Buffalo following a meeting with the Sabres new ownership group in which they guaranteed money would be spent to once again make the Sabres compeitive.

I like the move. Hopefully they can get Derek Roy signed and include his signing at the press conference.

'Sources told FOXSports.com that Ruff agreed to a three-year deal with the new Sabres ownership group and that he'll get more of a say on personnel matters than he had in the past.'

Ruff's okay, but if he truly is going to have more of a say in personnel matters I hope it gets reflected in on-ice performance.

As for Regier, I'd personally prefer a GM who's more than "adequate." And Darcy is barely that . . .

Interesting.

We'll see what both of these guys can do without their hands tied.

But only in Buffalo could a head coach have two losing seasons and miss the playoffs twice in a row, and get a 3 year extention.

Maybe it just reflects how terrible the situation was to coach and manage under the thumb of the Regis regime.

Hopefully it's the right decision to keep both of these guys, but if Regier keeps turning the Sabres into a soft Islanders team of the late 90's, I'm going to get pissed real quick. Obviously, after this amount of time that he's been the Sabres GM, he should have a pretty good idea of what the fans of Buffalo want to see on this ice. Now deliver it, Darcy.

I think Regier saved himself with that Gratton trade for Briere. He gets scorned for his patience but that looks to be a totally one-sided deal in our favor and his patience paid off.
Ruff we know is a good coach and holds players accountable. If he ended up going somewhere like the Rangers or Columbus, I bet we would appreciate him more. I'm glad they're keeping Ruff... I wouldn't have minded a new G.M. but we'll see how it goes. Darcy has been average so far.

I like it.

I like Regier and i like Ruff. Last season i don't blame Ruff and i dont see any other coaches who are realistic to come to Buffalo that would do better then Lindy. With more money and more convidence i think Lindy will lead us back to the playoffs.

it's truly put up or shut up time, no excuses for Lindy and Darcy.

I can't believe it when i read comments on this board that say "I like so-and-so because he is adequate"?!?!??!

What the hell?? I can't believe some people accept "adequate". For the money that we as fans spend, I think we can expect more than adequate people to run our franchises. If we except mediocrity, than we've already lost the battle.
