The Red Sox have denied the Rockette #300, and are currently tooling on the Yankees. :D

You Red Sox fans sure know how to hold a grudge. Didn't he win like 190 games as a Boston pitcher?

Rocket just wanted to shun the sox out of any part, and wants to get 300 in that famed stadium, Detroit's Comerica Park

Boston Sports Guy's column on Clemens' career loss #154
http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/030527.html
Hench was especially ****y about it. He's my only friend who truly understands this whole Clemens thing. "My wife asked if part of me was cheering for him to get 300," Hench said. "I told her that I'm rooting for his arm to fall off so that his career ends and he's stuck on 299 for the rest of his life. She thought I was kidding."
He wasn't alone. During his 299th victory at Fenway last week, one of the Boston players belted a line drive off Clemens's right hand in the sixth inning. Clemens winced in pain and held his hand out, examining it the same way he would examine a piece of barbecued chicken that fell on the floor. The Yankee coaches and trainers sprinted out to make sure he was okay. And watching the game at work, I was muttering under my breath, "I hope it's broken in eight places."
And, for those not from Boston, here's the reason why he was in the "twilight of his career", 40-39 over the last four years at Boston --while telling us about his rigorous off-season conditioning program.

And yet he’s 40 years old playing a young man’s game and playing it great. That and he could out-run and out-work most players 15 years younger.

When you jade Red Sox fans, the Red Sox fans will never forget it. And they will never let go. If Clemens ever had his #21 retired at Fenway, it will be the only time in history that a player would be booed during his number retirement ceremony.

What did Roger do to RedSox fans? Dan Duquette essentially threw him out the door. Was he supposed to retire and not pitch again?
The Sox didn’t want him, he left and has played well. Why is that insulting to fans in Boston.

I’m not a huge Clemens fan but I respect what he’s done, I just don’t understand the hatred Boston has for him.

I expected a lot more out of you moderator. This and a few b4, have to be the most IGNORANT statements I've ever seen here. I guess that's why the saying is"opinions are like a**holes, everyone's got one." You've proven to be the latter, with a former. Get a life yankee-haters. Clemens is best pitcher of all time.

First, let's start with his past quotes:
1) He could never pitch/play against the Red Sox. If he were ever to play for another team, it would be in the national league, close to his home. i.e. Houston Astros
2) He complains to Boston management because he had to carry his own luggage.
His Actions:
1) Refuses contract offered by Boston, signs for a ton of money up in Toronto. Toronto, an AL team, and yeah, real close to Houston.
2) He orchestrates a trade to the New York Yankees. A guy who was once put up in the same category as Bobby Orr, Larry Bird, and Ted Williams, has committed the ultimate cardinal sin.
3) Why didn't Clemens produce his last four years in Boston like he has done in Toronto and New York? Motivation? Why the hell wasn't he motivated in Boston? He was the highest paid player in baseball w/ the Red Sox, but I guess that isn't enough motivation.

Competition in MLB is piss poor, an absolute joke, if this were 20 + years ago, I'd give the guy credit.

Actually, there is a case to be made, and I was surprised to see it. This is an article by ESPN's Rob Neyer, who writes statistically based analysis of baseball for ESPN.

If he stayed with the Bosox his whole career, won 3 more cy youngs like he did, win 2 world series with sox, yes i would say that. But I don't think that was possible in Boston. Anways, you gave me an idea for new thread

Good article John.
It is smart to divide MLB in pre-WWII and Post WWII. That allows for the NegroLeague players and the competition did get stronger from the mid 30's on up.
It's a hard call who's the best. If you asked 100 people who follow it you would get 100 different top 5's .
