From time to time I'll be adding an "editorial" thread here in the Wrestling forum.

Here is my first crack at it... Give me some feedback guys!
Thanks.

The Most Hated Man in Wrestling...

I belong to 3 different forums on the internet. On all three, one of which is the Buffalo Range, another at wrestleview.com and another being a Star Trek forum, my username is THEGAME. This name obviously pays homage to my favorite WWE superstar, Triple H. Any of you who frequent any internet wrestling sites or belong to a forum such as the one at wrestleview.com should know by now that Triple H is not a popular man in the online fan community. On wrestleview, I seem to be the only fan of HHH on the whole site. Almost everyone else can't stand the current World Heavyweight champion, for a variety of reasons.

First among these reasons is HHH's real life engagement to WWE Smackdown! General Maneger and top producer of storylines, Stephanie McMahon. Most internet fans feel that because HHH is "hitting" Stephanie, that he has now reached a position of power and influence in the company that he should not have. Many fans point to HHH's continual headlining of major PPV's (Like Wrestlemania XVI and XVIII) and his lengthy reign as World Champion and RAW's top main eventer as evidence of his increased "pull" with Vince McMahon and the booking staff at WWE. Other fans hate HHH because of his unapolgetic attitude towards both his peers in the WWE (namely Steve Austin and Bill Goldberg) and internet fans, whom he has repeatedly dismissed as a credible aspect of the business. Still others blame HHH for keeping down some of the popular midcard talent on RAW and throughout the company like Rob Van Dam and most noteably Booker T, who HHH defeated in this year's Wrestlemania. Another argument is that HHH has never been as good a performer since his Quad injury in 2001. All of these reasons have added up to make HHH the most hated man in Wrestling today by most internet fans.

Obviously, my take on HHH is somewhat different than most "smart marks". Since his transition from the role of face midcarder to "The Cerebral Assasin", the uber-heel in late 1999, HHH has been the consistent "bad guy" and impact performer in the WWF/E. Despite a absence of more than 6 months in late 2001, HHH has been the guy in WWE for nearly 4 years. His return in early 2002 was one of the most anticipated events in years. His character endured both as a face and again as a heel in that year, becoming by far the most consistent performer on either roster, while other big names like The Rock, Steve Austin, Undertaker and Kurt Angle were injured, fired, doing other projects, or buried in the midcard. HHH has sold his role as the biggest heel in the business time and again. He has "carried the ball" for the company through the last 4 Wrestlemanias, becoming the first heel champion to retain at Wrestlemania 2000, stealing the show with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania X-Seven, winning the Unidsputed title at Wrestlemania X-8, and retaining his World Title at Wrestlemania XIX this year. His matches, such as his 2 out of 3 fall classics with both Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels along with his epic fued with Mick Foley and his Iron Man match with the Rock, have become some of the finest matches and moments in the WWE's history over the last 4 years.

In today's WWE, where roster changes happen as frequently as they do on an NFL team each offseason, HHH is the constant. He is the flagship champion on the company's premier show, the show that made the WWE what it is today, he is the man who is the most competent professional both in and out of the ring today. He does not quit, show up late, blow his spots, drop the ball or adversly affect the lockeroom with a bad attiude. He conducts himself in the grand tradition of those who have led the business before him, names like Hogan, Hart, Flair, Sammartino, Andre and Blassie. HHH is the best thing going in wrestling today, and is the greatest hope for renewed prosperity for both the WWE and the business itself in the future. It's time we played the game.

I agree, HHH is boring, but is the best now. They need to something different, maybe crossover and have Brock go at 'em
