View Full Version : Patrick Elias straight up for Satan?

Both have proven to be explosive players in the past, but have ran straight into brick walls. Elias is like a no show right now in the playoffs for the Devils. Satan wants nothing to do with the Sabres rebuilding plans. Why not bring in Elias? It is clear that both players need a change of scenery. Elias had 96 points a couple seasons ago. He is still fairly young. The only thing is though, is that it would probably take more than Satan to pry away Elias from the Devils. It would probably take some kind of package, like Satan, Zhitnik, and Curtis Brown to get him. Elias makes a lot though. He makes 4.3 million a year I think. But he has the acceleration and speed that Satan doesn't have, and he isn't a puck hog and will go to the front of the net hard. I'm probably dreaming, but wouldn't it be amazing to have Elias?

Is Elias willing to go into the corners?
Will he get physical when the time comes?
Can he add anything on special teams?

If the answer is no to any of those, he's just a pricier Satan...the Sabres say they want to get tougher, here's a prime opportunity to put their money where their mouth is...dealing Satan should net us, at minimum, a two-way forward. This could be Darcy's chance to redeem himself for the Kozlov trade {don't screw it up, please...}

I agree, I wouldn't take Elias either, I'd try for Arnott first

What are you guys talking about? Your talking about trading away the best offensive player we have. No way! We need get more people who can score. Not get rid of the one guy on our team who can score.

He scores only when he feels like it, and he doesnt feel like doing it in rebuilding Buffalo

Well he still scored more than anyone else on this team. Besides if you give this guy a quality center to play with two things will happen: he will want to play in Buffalo and he will score even more goals. Don't trade him

They need a center to get Satan the puck. Not trade Satan for another winger. I don't understand everyone's gripe about Satan. He's our most prolithic and only goalscorer since LaFontaine. He's the only guy to get at least 60 points in 5 consecutive seasons since LaFontaine, and he's done it with no one to set him up the entire time. He's led our team in game winning goals in 3 different seasons since he's been here, and been 2nd on the team in game winners in 2 different seasons.

Satan disappears in the playoffs? Bull******. He's played in a total of 51 playoff games, all with the Sabres, and has 35 total points.

He had a disappearing act in '99? Bull******. He was injured for most of that run and he only played in 5 games!

He had 3 goals and 2 assists in those 5 games.....

Typical Buffalo fans.

He's also a 1st line penalty killer, and is our lone sniper on the powerplay. He can play point or wing on the powerplay. He's versatile, and that makes him even more valuable than just a goalscorer. He's said that he doesn't mind staying in Buffalo as long as it's a team that has a chance to win it all. As long as the new ownership group takes steps to improve the team to make them a true contender. What player wouldn't want that?!

Titus said his shot percentage has gone down. Who freaking cares?? He has had 2 seasons in a row where he's broken the 70 point mark. Once again, the first player to do that in a Buffalo Sabres sweater since Patty LaLa.

Enough of this garbage Satan bashing.

Obviously you guys haven't watched Elias play a lot before. He is an explosive player. And Elias is not a winger. He is playing Center now like he did in Juniors. They started him out on the wing because players tend to develop better on the wing and then you move them back to their natural positions. Arnott is a great player, but Dallas isn't going to let Arnott go. Especially after they trade Turgeon. Elias would seem a more likely candidate to get traded. But since no one else on the team except for Satan has little or any trade value, you would have to trade Satan to get something good back. Elias and Satan are two very different types of players. Satan is a fancier player, in the likes of a Federov or Samsonov, and Elias is an in your face speedster like a Bondra or St.Louis. Maybe if Buffalo could some how pry away Rafalski or Nidermayer away from the Devils, it would become a sweeter deal............

New Jersey gets: Miro Satan, Alexi Zhitnik, Curtis Brown, Jay Mckee

Buffalo gets: Patrick Elias, Scott Nidermayer, Second round pick

For some reason I see Elias coming here and playing like Kozlov, so I'd veto that trade. I do like brown and zhitnik fpr Neidemayer and a pick

Why would Elias play like Kozlov? He is ten times better than Kozlov. It would take more than Zhitnik and Brown to get Nidermayer though.

I've seen plenty of Elias. I know he's a very solid 1st line forward. But what makes you think that he would score any more than Satan does on this current roster? Elias has been on an over all better team than Satan has had, and look at their point totals.

Satan:

GP: 622
G: 230
A: 232
TP: 462
+/-: +55
GWG: 34
SHG: 14
PP: 74

Elias:

GP: 477
G: 169
A: 209
TP: 378
+/-: +114
GWG: 35
SHG: 4
PP: 39

Very similar numbers, points wise. What makes you think we'd have to over pay for him? Even IF Jersey wants to part with him?

Elias and Satan are two very different types of players. Satan is a fancier player, in the likes of a Federov or Samsonov

I'd compair Samsonov to be more like an Afinogenov that can actually finish. Satan isn't really anything like Samsonov. Satan is too smooth and cool with the puck, a more relaxed type of scoring style. Samsonov is little quick legged fire cracker.

and Elias is an in your face speedster like a Bondra or St.Louis. and Samsonov.

Now that is one crazy blockbuster deal if I ever saw one....I think it's just a little far fetched with too many players involved all for the acquisition of Elias in exchange for Satan.

I'd rather try and get Elias in here without giving up Satan.

How about McKee, Brown, and Afinogenov for Elias and Paul Martin?

Adding a talent like Elias to play with Kotalik and Satan would likely change Satan's mind about staying here. And Elias is an offensive player that knows how to play within a defensive system like Ruff's.

Exactly. 12 players in the NHL have more goals than Satan in the past 5 years. Satan is an excellent player.

If you want to deal him for Elias, great.

If you think Satan contributes nothing to special teams, you are on some kind of chemical.

If you want Elias, send MAD MAX & Zhitnik to NJ run there you go. NJ wants Z to pair up with Smehlik to replace the fossils (Stevens & Daneyko) If Elias is available and I dont know, Zhitnik would make the most sense to go away. Satan should stay but needs the center to feed him. #61 is expendable with the play of Kotalik and Satan ahead of him on RW.

#61 is definitely expendable, and could attract a decent return.

Afinogenov's value is probably at a low now because of his injury last year.
