Anybody hear of a possible deal with Erik Cole?

Rumor in these parts (Oswego / Syracuse) is 5 years $32 Million. I just want to point out that this is only a Rumor I heard and I haven't seen anything in print.

Where do these rumors come from??

Not a chance...is he even a free agent??

If he is, he's probably restricted...

He isn't worth 5 years, 3.2 million!!!

Baseless rumor.

hahahahaha

Thanks for the laugh. After a long day at work i needed a good laugh. I would LOVE to have Cole in a Sabres uni but hes a RFA and i wouldn't pay more then $900,000 per. Even though i beilive last season he made $500k although i could be wrong, i am talking from my head now.

Clarkson Golden Knight, I believe... played well in the 01-02 season, and in the playoffs that year as well... he could turn out to be a great player, but for that kind of money, with the sabres trying to turn things around financially w/ a new owner... its too risky right now...

Marchant is more plausible

Ummmm, there is no way the Sabre would either:

A) Pay Erik Cole over $6 million per year.

nor

B) Give up the 5 1st round picks in compensation to the Canes.

The only way Erik ends up in a Sabres uni is if the Canes decide to trade him because they don't feel his offensive upside is worth keeping around.

How about Afinogenov for Cole?

I would keep Max over Connolly. What's all the recent problems with Max anyway? They guy had an off year due to a severe injury. I think it would be a big mistake to move this guy for someone like Cole. Does this team really need to be any slower? I think Ottawa proved that you need speed to beat the trap.

I just don't think Connolly is worth trading at this point.

And my problem with Max is the problem I've always had with the guy, he can skate like the wind, but he can't finish the chances that his blinding speed creates. Plus, with Satan and Dumont ahead of him on the RW depth chart he's going to get 3rd or 4th line minutes and that's a waste. I'd much rather that they move him for a player that can play a 3rd or 4th line style if need be.

Either that or move Dumont or Satan and give Max top 2 line ice time like he needs.

I agree Jim Bob, except I wouldn't move Satan to make room for Afinogenov. Satan is a proven scorer, Dumont and Max as the top two RWs would be a giant step backward. Move Max and get a proper 3rd liner in there.

I'd move Satan if the right deal were on the table. Like on that added a young #1 center or a young PP QB defenseman able to log top 4 icetime at even strength that could grow with this team.

For example, I'd send Satan to Carolina or Pittsburgh for their #1 picks. Although, somehow I don't think they are in the mood to make such deals.

Well, if a top prospect could be had, I guess I would consider it, but I would prefer to find a center for Satan and return him to the 35-40 level. I really don't want to watch Afinogenov and Dumont squander setups from a talented young center.

i played high school hockey with eric cole, he's pretty good and would be a welcome addition to the sabres. But then there would be bandwagon sabres fans all over the place around here that would be way too annoying.

Oswego ain't that big a place. I can deal with the bandwagon fans should we sign Marchant too.

The reason I'd make the deal is that I don't expect Satan to be around long post-2004. I'd rather add a top young talent that will be around longer and give up a year or two of Miro.
