Damn, we are gonna miss this guy when we get back to the playoffs. Hopefully the Sens can't afford him and will deal him next year.

Let's worry about making it to the playoffs before worrying about what happens what we're there.

Yeah he's been awesome for the Sens.. he's playing hard..

He got rocked by Stevens last night though..

I like Varada.. he's a warrior.. he's the kind of guy you need on your team in the playoffs..

GO SENS......

He is the reason why the Senators won last nights game, his disruption in front of the net set up the winning goal.

I don't care what he does in Ottawa. I wasn't impressed with him last 2 season here, esspicially last season. Even if he goes crazy and gets like 5 goals in the finals i will not miss him one bit and don't want him back!

he's one of those guys you don't miss till you see him do well elsewhere. I hate that. I wish him well though, his work gave Rob Ray a chance for a ring he played 3 games for, haha

Varada was a good player for the sabes and I wish him well. I felt last season he didn't play very well until after he came back from his injury and there were trade rumors in the air, so he may have been one of the guys that staled on Ruff.

We didn't seem to miss him during his absense for either his injury or after he was traded. I thought Mair played the agitator role admirably and can fill in Varada's shoes.

No, I missed him from day one. Some of us appreciated what he did when he was here.

I was always a fan of Varada and his work ethic. The guy came to play every night, and was always the one to take the beating for the team, and dish it out as well.

But that gradually faded over the last two seasons. Another guy that just went stale in the long line of them. A reason why I think Ruff may not be the right coach for this team. Too many guys have just gone from good to suck in a short amount of time. Varada included.

I for one was and am happy hes gone from Buffalo and i hope he nevers returns, only wearing another teams uni so i can see a Mair or a McKee nail him a few times.

Varada didn't give his all every night and those silly behind the back passes he always made. Jesus, thank god Regier got rid of that garbage. When he played 100% i agree, he was worth the money and it was nice to have him in Buffalo, but he only played 100% like 20% of the regular season.

Varada could usually play without a stick, seeing that the guy never knew how to properly use one. He couldn't shoot a puck in the ocean from the beach.

Physically, he was ok, but he was also good for a stupid penalty in each game.

To me, he was just another dud in a talent-starved line-up.

I'll take Mair anyday over Varada

His inablity to finish gave Phillips the goal too.

Your nuts. Varada is much better than Mair.

As for Varada's propensity for taking bad penalties, he took 31 penalty minutes this year - amazingly low for someone who plays as physically as he does.

Much better than Mair??? whaaaat??

Well LALA, we'll see who goes where in their respective careers. Varada can now be invisible for the next season in Ottawa while Mair assumes an even larger role with the sabres. Not to mention that Mair is 3 years younger and has a much greater upside.

Already, only one year with the sabres and he has established himself as a team leader. Mair has repeatedly shown that he will take up for anyone of his teamates, while I can't say the same for Varada.

Listen, Varada is ok, but Mair is and will be a better package than Varada will ever be. Neither are offensive geniuses, but Varada claimed himself to be an offensive minded guy. He wanted to be on the power play. Come on, I never saw a more pathetic "power play specialist" in my life. He does not know how to use his stick, period!

I mean if you want to continually mire in mediocrity, than let's stay with Varada. But, Mair is younger, has better upside, and is a breath of fresh air for this team. Varada is stale. It's time to move forward into the right direction. The sabres need to get on the right track.

Don't tell me you think it's a good idea to have Satan as captain. If so, you may be beyond help buddy.

When did I ever mention Satan as captain? Oh, I get it. You are creating strawmen because you have no argument.

Mediocrity? The Sabres' greatest playoff success came with Varada on the roster.

Mair is also younger than Forsberg. Let's not be ridiculous. Mair does not have a higher upside than Varada. He has EIGHT CAREER GOALS. Varada had more goals in his injury plagued year this year. Going in the right direction is keeping mean players who can shut down the opposition and chip in the occasional goal. Varada does all those better than Mair.

Varada does "not know how to use his stick?" He scored 2 goals every 3 games in Rochester. Used in the proper situations he will score 20 goals.

Saying Mair has greater upside is funny. I like Mair a lot, but be realistic.

Varada's usefullness to the current version of the Sabres became obvious when the team's play picked up when he was out with an injury and Jaroslav "The Quitter" Kristek was called up from Rochester.

Varada is a gritty pest, but I don't think the Sabres will miss him all that much.

He didn't want to be in Buffalo and they received their 3rd 1st round talent from the 2002 Draft in return for V and a 5th.

Worst case is that they end up with a 2nd rounder in 2004 for V and a 5th.

I still like the deal in that case.

I won't blast the guy, but much like Barnaby and May leaving town, I doubt I'll miss him all that much because he wasn't a playmaker and it's easier to replace a plugger like a Varada than a more talented player.

And I'll take Adam Mair right now, for this Sabres team over Varada who had mentally checked out any day of the week.

If we're talking about a playoff team like Ottawa though, then I'd take V.
