Lost in all the hoopla about the actions of the fans in Chi-town and Frank Thomas' on again, off again career is a guy who is on a resurgence of his own...pitcher Esteban Loaiza. After several years of making his living off "potential," in 2003 Loaiza is 7-1 with 2.05 ERA.
The much ballyhooed signing of Bartolo Colon has produced 3 wins and 3 losses and a 4.23 ERA, Mark Buehrle has been mired in a slump, and Billy Koch has been awful after being signed to shore up the closer spot. Esteban has been the only bright spot on a staff that has had some difficulty this season.
On a team that hasn't provided a ton of run support and that isn't tremendously good (again), Loaiza is making the most of his abilities.

Talk about playing well under the radar!
Loaiza is having perhaps the best start of any pitcher in MLB and no one notices, but I guess that's what happens when the Yanks and Bo Sox play in your league!
With the Royals coming back down to earth and the Twins playing some inconsistent ball, I could see the Chi Sox making a run in the AL Central if Colon can get back on track and Ordonez, Konerko, Thomas and Lee pick it up in the offence department, which I think they will, save for Thomas, who is done in my book.

I hope he (Thomas) isn't done, but it's not looking too good so far. His BA is still low (.260ish) with 8 dingers.
I've been impressed with D'Angelo Jimenez, too. He's playing good ball and hitting well (unlike the rest of the team), but he's not a stud defensive guy.
I'd love it, but I don't see the ChiSox winning the Central. The hitting has been erratic across the board and the pitching staff looks pretty terrible at times. Plenty of time to pick it up, but even if they do manage to win the Central they can't compete with the marquee teams in the AL. We'll see.

Loiaza went under no one's radar. Check his stats, he's always quick out the gate, then bites a big one June- September. You watch

He's never even been close to this quick out of the gate. You might be right but he's having a tremendous season so far.

Yes, really. He's been in the league for 9 years. Therefore, he's never even been close to this quick (i.e., 7 wins to start a season) in his career. You may be correct...he may spiral at the end of the season...but he's bucking his usual trend just by getting 7 freakin' wins. His previous high for a season was 11.
