Ryan Denney the 2nd or something more. I don't know. Let's hope
for the best. Was he the best DL left?

Anyone have info on Kelsay? According to Mel Kiper, he could've been a late first-rounder...

Well we need help at DE. Good pick. What next? TE? WR?

I say with this pick there is gonna be some changes and a cut.
Kelsay will be a great backup to schobel at LE.
Now either IRONS/McKenzie or Denney will be cut possibly.

wasn't White still on the board? If he was, bad pick. If not, good pick.

White is still on the board, but if Kelsay turns out to be as good as the guy they compare him to (Grant Wistrom) then we got a steal. Not a super pass-rusher, but a great all-around talent.

White is still available, Moulds.
Chris Kelsay
SELECTED BY BUFFALO , ROUND 2, PICK 16, OVERALL PICK 48
DE | (6-4, 273, 4.72) | NEBRASKA
By Pro Football Weekly
Notes: High school linebacker, weight man and basketball player. Played in 11 games and started once in 1999. Started seven games in 2000 and every game in '01. Had 16 tackles, one tackle for loss and half a sack in 1999; 29-2-1½ in 2000; and 52-17-5 in '01. Had shoulder surgery following the '01 season and missed '02 spring practice. Missed five games with a torn hamstring but started every other game and recorded 38-13-7. Was a 2002 National Scholar Athlete who had a 3.7 GPA in finance. A team captain, made All-Big 12 honorable mention, even though he missed several games. Was impressive in week of practice at the Senior Bowl before a strong showing at the Scouting Combine.
Positives: Has good but not great quickness and quick-twitch off the ball. Is quick with his hands and reacts well to blocks, plays with leverage and uses his hands to gain position. Is very intense and competitive on the field, in the classroom and in the weight room. Refuses to stay blocked. Has a good array of pass-rush moves, including club, swim and counter. Has the closing burst and acceleration once he gets into the backfield. Character and intelligence are plusses. Has a 361-inch vertical. Is a worker and competitor in the Grant Wistrom mold and has improved every season. Added nearly 20 pounds between spring '02 and Scouting Combine.
Negatives: Lacks size and will get engulfed by bigger offensive tackles. Relies heavily on his speed. Is not as agile as teams want in a speed-rushing defensive end. Has a recent injury history. Is strong but must get much stronger.
Summary: Though his ability to play the run has improved, Kelsay doesn't show the ability to consistently beat superior competition. His lunch-pail approach makes him a top prospect, but he may not be drafted until the second round because of his measurables.

But only because of injury, White was the 2nd most productive DE in College.
He has injury concerns that's why I thought TD would draft him :D

hey, there was only one other DE picked after McGhee, so I'd say that pick has extra value. TD is a genius

FYI. Kelsay at 48 is a major steal at a position of glaring need. I would't have been upset if we took him at 23.
Shout's final list of draft prospects has Chris Kelsay rated 20th overall. Dwayne White was rated 44th.

If he can perform on the field and be productive for us I'll be a happy camper.

Kelsay is the better overall player, and White is the better Pass-Rusher.

TD has proven, once again, that he is a draft master. he gets a possible steal, and fills a need with a DE had had highest on his board when he picked McGhee

I would have liked to see White...I love his pass rushing ability. Kelsey is no slouch though, and I'm happy with him--just not in the 1st. Whoever gets white though will be very happy...

Does Kelsay have the "Kearse-type" build/potential spot on line? If Williams and Adams take 3 + OL with them, it opens some doors.

Most ratings I saw had Kelsay ahead of White

Kelsay is 6-4 270 and runs a 4.71.... doens' have the freaks speed or wingspan and is more of a run-stopper/balanced DE.

From what I've been reading... no... Kelsay isn't the Kearse-type player... although, I'm sure he could be if you watch the games like this...:fumer: ;)

best quality is his run/pass recognition.

I liked White better too but trust that TD picked the right guy in Kelsay. Kelsay's highlights on ESPN looked awsome!

Both Peterson and White are falling. Peterson was projected in the first round.

I have watched Chris Kelsay in college for the last couple of years and please know that it would have been insane to take White ahead of him. Kelsay played hurt this entire year with an injury that was not healed until the Senior Bowl. He has always done well against top tackles in the Big 12. He was the only star this year on a young Nebraska defense and was double or triple teamed at times. He never stops going and is a complete DE, not just a pass rusher. He will be a solid every down guy for the Bills for many years similar to the way Hansen was in the 90's, with the potential to be more of a sack threat. He will make the linebackers and secondary job easier I assure you. Great pick that could have been a good first round for us.

Kelsay is a buzz-saw. And he's very smart.

There was no Kearse type DE in the draft. There are no Kearse type DEs in most drafts. It may be another decade before another 6'5" 260 lb guy with 4.4 speed comes out of college. There's a reason he's called "Freak." There aren't may "Pepper-like DEs who come along either. If the 46 defence absolutely depends on having a Kearse-like player, then most teams, including the Bills ought to stay away from it.
