The best wrestler of all time also happens to be my all time favorite:
Bret "Hitman" Hart.
My current favorite wrestler is HHH, obviously.

The best of all time has to be Bret Hart. He was a great wrestler. He can be credited for launching the carriers of other greats like Shawn Michales, and Steve Austin. He was the best performer ever. For him a successful match was one in which he made it look like he was abusinghis opponet throughout the match, but never actually hurting him. And if you look back at his carrier, he never injured another opponet.
The wrestler today that most remindes me of Hart would have to be Angle. And while I am a Angle fan, my favorite wrestler now has been my fav for the past 5 + years. And that would be the Rock.

fave of all time, The Ultimate Warrior. i will never forget the match at Wrestlemania 6 when he beat hogan title for title. he always brought so much energy to the ring, i had to cheer for him above all else.
for now, i still have to cheer for Kane. even though i liked him best when he never said a word, he just came to the ring and kicked ass, like the undertaker of old (who would be my very close second fave of all time). kane now is not utilized the way i prefer, but i still have to cheer for him more than any other. i have grown from a little warrior, to a Kaneinite

My fav of all time is Kurt Angle. In my opinion, Angle has the best combination of wrestling skill and mic work. HBK is a close 2nd.

My pick is Nature Boy Ric Flair.
In his prime, he could work with any style, had great stamina and could carry anyone to a good match. He made almost everybody who started out in the NWA.
I'm probably older then most of you guys so I can remember this stuff lol, but during the territory days, the NWA had one world champ and many small territories (World Class, WCW, Mid Atlantic, etc) . He would travel to all the territories, stay for a few weeks, and make someone a star. I remember when he made Kerry Von Erich the biggest thing in Texas that ended in a super event at Texas Stadium(KVE would've probably been the biggest star in wrestling if he didn't get into a motorcycle accident that had most of his foot amputated and led him to an addiction to painkillers).
D-Rocafella's right about Bret Hart, I remember when he was interviewed about the SummerSlam match against Davey Boy in London. He said that Smith got so nervous in front of 80,000 of his countrymen, that he forgot every spot and blew up in the first few minutes, and Hart had to carry the entire pay per view main event.

Here's a bio on Kerry Von Erich Kerry Von Erich (http://www.accelerator3359.com/Wrestling/bios/kvonerich.html)
Many people said that he turned to drugs to cope with the fear and anxiety of one day his boot falling off during a big WWE match. This was why he always wore boots with huge fringes on them.

HBK is probably my all time favorite. I think he may be the best in-ring worker ever. Has he ever had a bad match?
Rock has such star power personality that he so fun to watch.

i also want to mention a man who has more heart for wrestling than any other person. Mic Foley. Cactus Jack. Mankind. Dude Love. mic gave more to the sport of wrestling than anyone i can think of, and he didn't do it all in the spotlight like Hulk and others. i never heard of him till he was Mankind in the WWF. but after i read his book, i feel the man deserves a mention as the best wrestler of all time

Jst because you feel for him does not make him the best wrestler. Do you think he could have done half the things Bret or some of the other greats did? No way Mankind (or any other of his characters) makes the match on his own. He always needed to be carried by other greats (Rock, HHH, Austin, Undertaker).

Mick Foley certainly not the best wrestler but he had no fear. although maybe he was just crazy. still, he deserves some mention for his two hell in a cell matches alone. just amazing matches. not to mention the old days when he used to wrestle in barb wire matches, real barb wire! plus some fire matches in Japan. plus he lost part of his ear against vader!

hey wrestling is not just about beating people up, but also getting beat. foley got beat like no other man in wrestling. he could make others wreslters seem better than they were, cuz he could take a beating. i still have much respect for brett, and taker and all others mentioned on this board. but the man gave everything he had and ten times more for his love of this business. to me, Foley is God, and that will never change

So many things make up a great wrestler, but which is most important?
In ring prowess?
Mic work?
Workability?
Status in the back?
Transcendant marketability?
Look?
Moves?
I tend to think that very few wrestlers have ever added all of these aspects up together. Guys like Austin and Rock have come close in recent years, but I think Ric Flair has done the best job in becoming the total ICON of wrestleing, pehaps even as big as Hogan.
