View Full Version : Mock Draft

I got really bored so I dedided to do a fantasy football draft. (Thank you for the idea D-Rocafella).

1. Cincinnatti Bengals: Carson Palmer QB USC. This seems to be everyones consensus #1 pick. They could go with either CB Newman or WR Rogers as they have said that they wanted to go with the best overall player. That being said, the Bengals to need a QB of the future and this is probably where they will go.

2. Detroit Lions : Charlie Rogers WR Mich St. Has anyone seen a mock draft with Rogers NOT going to Detroit? This is a pick that makes so much sense. Rogers is probably the best overall player in the draft and this pick is going to give the Lions a pretty decent offense.

3. Houston Texans: Andre Johnson WR Miami. Houston is trying adamantly to trade down and they probably will (New York Jets???). If they do not however, and I am not a big fan of projecting trades, they will probably take Johnson. They have become enamored with him over the last couple of weeks as a player to team up with their franchise QB. They just signed Weigert at RT and Boselli is ahead of schedule so they will probably hold off on Tackle till a little bit later in the draft.

4. Chicago Bears: Dewayne Robertson DT Kentucky. The Bears could go a number of ways here but I suspect that they will go DT and take the best one available in Robertson. I also like Newman here though. matching up Robertson with Ted Washington gives this team a pair of stud DT's. Urlacher is going to have a field day with these two guys in front of him.

5. Dallas Cowboys: Terrance Newman CB Kan. St. The tuna gets to fill a gaping hole with one hell of a CB. This guy is in the Champ Bailey mold because he can also return kicks and if they wanted to they could play him as a wide receiver though. Newman combined with the other CB Ross (2002, 3rd round) and FS Williams (2002, 1st round) gives this team one of the best yound secondaries in the league.

6. Arizona Cardinals: Terrell Suggs DE Ariz St. The Cardinals becaome the beneficiary of the poor showing at the Arizona St. pro day by Suggs. He was thought to be in the running for the #1 one pick overall as recently as 2 weeks ago. He had a terrible showing at pro day and now teams are shying away from him. He is still a player though. He is from the area too. The Cardinals need a DE that can rush the passer really bad. This fits the bill.

7. Minnesota Vikings: Jimmy Kennedy DT Penn St. Kennedy has fallen a little bit on draft boards but it has nothing to do with him. Robertson and Newman have both flied up the charts. This benefits the Vikings who get a stud tackle to put next to Chris Hovan and their yound DE's Bromell and Mixon. The Vikings will have one of the best young DE's in the league.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars: Kyle Boller QB Cal. The first suprise of the draft comes off via Jacksonville. They have been enamored with this kid for quite some time and they feel that having Brunell behind him will give him time to work him into the system. They could go with a tackle or with a CB and they actually probably will. I just have a feeling that they are going to go with a the QB of the future right here.

9. Carolina Panthers: Jordan Gross T Utah. Carolina wants to improve it's offensive line and this is probably the best one out here. Adding Stephen Davis makes it obvious that this team wants to run the ball. Their offensive line is pretty decent but are probably a tackle away from having a good one. Drafting Gross will make up for the mistake of releasing Chris Terry last year during the season. Trufant could be a selection here though too.

10. Baltimore Ravens: Bryon Leftwhich QB Marsh. This is another team that is really in love with Boller. I don't think that he will be there though and now they go and draft the next best one in Leftwhich. This offense has never really gotten on track and that is a little bit weird to me because coach Billick was considered an offensive "genius" when came from Minnesota to coach this team.

11. Seattle Seahawks: Kevin Williams DT Oak St. This is a pick made purely out of neccesity. Last year this team gave up so many rushing yards it was rediculous (Thomas Jones from Ariz ran for 175 on them last year.) New D coordinator Ray Rhodes will make sure that he gets some younger help up front in order to stop teams from rushing on them so much.

12. St. Louis Rams: Boss Bailey OLB Georgia. I know that this team probably needs a CB, but this is the Rams and they don't exactly draft like other teams do. This team loves speed and when Bailey ran a 4.3 40 at his pro day, he got himself a Ram helmet. Will probably end up playing the role of Derrick Brooks in the similar defensive scheme of Lovie Smith's Cover 2. How does a LB run a 4.3 on grass??? I need to hit the gym.

13. New York Jets: William Joseph DT Miami. This guys stock has fallen a little bit, but he is still a good football player and he fits a need for the Jets, who may or may not move up in the draft to get a WR. At this time last year Joseph was projected as a possible top 5 pick this year so he may be a little bit of a steal. The Jets could also go with O line help or with CB.

14. New England Patriots: Jonathan Sullivan DT Georgia. New England needs to get a little bit younger on the D line and DT seems to be the chic pick over the last couple of years. No DE's really warrant to get picked this high either. Can pass rush as well as stop the run. A complete package that fits in with the New England scheme.

15. San Diego Chargers: Kwame Harris T Stanford. San Diego wants to base it's offense on rushing the ball as evident with the signing of Lorenzo Neal. The O line was actually pretty good last year but the tackles have something left to be desired. Although he is probably a little bit raw, this guy could potentially be the best one in the class.

16. Kansas City Chiefs: Marcus Trufant CB Wash St. Being a Bill fan, I can feel for the Chiefs in a way. They had a great offense and their defense was terrible. They could go DE right now, but more than likely they will take the best defender available and that is Trufant. He is a really good cover corner who plays a little like Patrick Surtain. Should start right away for the Chiefs.

17. New Orleans Saints: Andre Woolfork CB Oaklahoma. The Saints was another team that had a really good offense and a terrible defense. With two picks back to back, they can really go with the best available defenders right here. Woolfork is the pick here because he also fills the most pressing need on the team in CB. This guy is also athletic enough to play special teams.

18. New Orleans Saints: Rien Long DT Wash. St. Some teams hate this guy and some teams really love this guy. He is an enigma because he put up linebacker type combine numbers at his pro day, but he is an injury plagued player. Long is probably the best pass rushing DT in the draft this year and the Saints take a chance on him. Could either be a steal or a bust.

19. New England Patriots: Michael Haynes DE Penn St. Willie McGinnest is getting a little bit old and they need a younger body at DE. Haynes fits the bill. He had a monster senior bowl week and has taken that momentum to the draft. If he can improve his technique, he can take over games.

20. Denver Broncos: Jerome McDougle DE Miami. This guy is really good and I think will end up being one of the best players in this draft. He is explosive coming off the edge, and has a great first step. He will not have to carry the load on this team as they have Trevor Pryce and Darryl Gardner on this line. He is a great pick though.

21. Cleveland Browns: Eric Steinbach G/T Iowa. A lot of mock drafts have this guy going a little bit higher, but I think that he might fall because some teams are just not going to be sure if he can play tackle or just guard. injury concerns also come into play here, but the Browns will take a chance on him because they need offensive line help. Would not be surprised if they ended up drafting EJ Henderson becasue this team has no middle linebacker either.

22. New York Jets: Kelley Washington WR Tennessee. This guy has the potential to be the steal of the draft. I love this guy. He is very raw and he is also a little bit injury prone but he is going to be a great wide receiver. at 6'4, he is a huge target for Pennington to shoot at. He had a great pro day and I think that he will end up moving ahead of Taylor Jacobs.

23. Buffalo Bills: Dennis Weathersby CB Oregon. The Bills have 2 really good cornerbacks, however, they have NO nickel CB. You can say that Thomas is good, but I didn't see him till the end of the year. This guy has good size and is an aggresive CB. I saw somewhere in a mock, the Bills taking a RB right here. I just wanted to share that with you because I thought that was pretty funny.

24. Indianapolis Colts: Ty Warren DT Texas A&M. He is a good fit for the 2 gap defense that Indy runs. They would probably like to get a CB but there are none that really warrant the selection. Teams will probably look over his lackluster work ethic because this guy is a horse. He has real skills.

25. New York Giants: Chris Kelsay DE Nebraska. This guy is a clone of Grant Winstrom. He is a fast guy with a motor that does not quit. The Giants are in need of a solid DE to start opposite Strahan and this guy is probably it. O line could be an option here because they lost everybody on o line, but no players really warrant a selection here.

26. San Francisco 49ers: Taylor Jacobs WR Florida. No one really wants to touch this guy because he is from Florida and all Florida WR's seem to bust in the pro's for some reason. Durability will be an issue with this guy, but with Terrell Owens starting opposite him (assuming this team trade Tai Streets). he will see single coverage all of the time. A real nice value pick for the 49ers.

27. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dave Ragone QB Louisville. I know that this is a weird pick right here. However, Pitt does not have any pressing needs and this guy has been shooting up people's radar's in the past couple of weeks. I think that he is a little better than Rex Grossman which is why I am giving him the nod over him right here. I have a funny feeling that these teams that wait to take a QB in the second round is going to be a little dissapointed.

28. Tennessee Titans: Larry Johnson RB Penn St. Eddie George has been a stiff the past 2 years and the Titans need to get someone in here as a long term replacement. This guy is good right here and he can catch the ball out of the backfield very well. Should press for time right now and become the next starter for this team next year.

29. Green Bay Packers: Rex Grossman QB Florida. This team has been in love with guy for quite a while. They want to get a future replacement for Brett Favre and Rex could fit the bill. Not the tallest QB in the world (or the fastest), but always seems to get things done. They could take EJ Henderson right here just as easily though.

30. Philadelphia Eagles: Jason Whitten TE Tennessee. Would have also taken Henderson had they not signed Nate Wayne and traded for Simenou. This guy is a really good receiving tight end and is also a very good value pick at this stage in the first round. Philadelphia could take a DE also, but they have depth there so it is not a really big need right now.

31. Oakland Raiders: Cory Redding DE Texas. Oakland really needs some depth at the end position and Redding is probably the best avalible guy right now. Of course you never know with Oakland what they are going to do. Every other position seems to be set however and Redding would be a good end to stop both the run and the pass.

32. Oakland Raiders: Willis McGahee RB Miami. Al Davis has already admitted that he likes McGahee a bunch, Willis is FAR ahead of schedule and Al Davis basically makes the first and second round picks for the team every year. This just reminds me all too much of Bo Jackson about 15 years ago. I really think that Al Davis makes the call here and gets himself the best running back in the draft for 2004.

Thank you for your time guys. I am sure that there is stuff in here that you don't agree with. That's why this is an opinion board, right?

It isn't likely, but it wouldn't shock me to see the Bills take a RB here. If you consider that the signing of Sam Adams fills the need at DT, all the starting positions are filled, or at least have a competitive situation with players already signed. Depth at RB is a problem. This is about where Larry Johnson is expected to go, so it's at least possible.

It's pretty good.

I don't like Boller over Leftwich.

Weird choice for Buffalo.

Everyone's all over Boller right now. I saw something on ESPN with Mort saying that his pro day was so good that some teams like him better than Leftwhich because Byron is so immobile.

If the bills draft a RB in 1st round it would be a huge mistake. I know people say take best player available but with a first round pick you want a guy who will be a starter at least in a couple of years if not right away. Having Henry any RB we draft would only be a backup. Besides Henry is going to be top 5 back next year.

no way we should take a rb like LJ, I'm a PSU fan all da way, but his services will go to waste w/us...we're riding the T-Hen train all da way baby! we do need a reliable back up though, I'm sure we'll find a FA by the time camp starts...

hmm...I saw a mock draft that was exactly like this somewhere. I am looking for it. Anyway, I don'tthink Robertson will go over Kennedy, I don't think the steelers are going to go with Ragone, and Redding and McGahee are 2nd round picks. Also I don't see the Titans picking Johnson, he is identical to George and they want a different RB. They are both big, strong and up and down runners. I don't think Boller will go before Leftwhich, but I do think Leftwich will go to Baltimore as I had in my mock draft. I also don't see Joseph going befor Sullivan. Sullivan is much better and will go before Joseph, and Williams will go before Joseph as well.

BillsCAfan- you seem pretty confident that a lot of your things WILL happen in the draft. Lets face it no one knows what will happen.

well yeah, I'm not confident...thats why I said I think this will happen, I never said...."this is going to happen". Everybody's mocks are just what they think, and I simply stated that I don't think those things will happen.

Pretty good "but" I can't see EJ Henderson slipping to the second Round.

Why is Weathersby such a weird choice Mouldsrocks? I had us taking him in my mock to and to me it makes great sense. We worked on the front seven in FA and unless a Michael Hanyes, William Joseph, Kevin Williams or Johnathon Sullivan drops to us then CB seems the next best thing. And you can never, ever have to many good corners on your team.

it's weird b/c it's not an area of immediate need, especially in the first round. I didn't say it was bad.

We really don't have one glaring position that we need filled. TD and his staff did a great job in FA not only getting stars but also getting key role players to fill out our roster. With that said at CB we got our starters for the next 10 years in Clements and Winfield. But after that things look distorted. Thomas came on late but e is still not a sure fire nickel back. And after him it gets even worse. So drafting Weathersby would at least give us 4 corners we could rely on. There are alot of teams that would love to have 4 corners to rely on. And we are in a position to do so.

I agree. I think we should go secondary in the first round. Weather it be safety or CB. Weathersby would be a good pick, but he has some attitude problems and a bad work ethic. I would love it if Woolfolk dropped to us, or even TD trading up to get him. I also am in favor of getting a guy like Palamula or Hamlin in the first, but Hamlin is a FS, so he is the pick. If TD thinks he will be there by our 2nd pick, then we can wait.

I think we should go secondary with first pick, and then take a WR or DE in the second round. I think a good DE or WR can also be found in the later rounds and also after june 1st.

FS can defenatly wait till the 2nd round. Hamil should still be around along with Holt and maybe Mathis.
